With their TLC reality series Jon and Kate Gosselin, they captured the attention of the nation in 2007. The Gosselins were given the unique responsibility of raising twins (Cara & Mady), and sextuplets (Alexis and Hannah, Collin and Leah). Its' March 2009 series finale was the network's most-watched show, breaking all records.
Tabloids were also obsessed with the family. The Gosselins' marriage ended after ten years, and their bitter split put their children's loyalty to the test. The series was rebranded Kate Plus8. Production was sporadic until it wrapped up in 2017.
What happened to the family after the children became young adults? Check out these photos to see how the children have grown.
Jon and Kate's Nasty Divorce
The split between Jon and Kate was not amicable. They announced their split on their television show. Kate filed for divorce in 2009 two months after Jon was seen leaving a bar at 2 AM with their nanny.
The accusations of cheating were only the tip of an iceberg. TMZ was informed by Jon's lawyer that he planned to file for primary custody several months after the divorce was finalized. He mentioned Kate's appearance on Dancing With the Stars to prove that she was not a mother. He also said that he was paying $20,000 per month in child support.
Kate brought a federal case against Jon in 2013, claiming that Jon had hacked into her phone and computer. He also stole her hard drive in order to retrieve information for a tell-all book Kate Gosselin, How She Fooled The World. Jon claimed in it that Kate used corporal punishment (spanking and hair pulling) as a way to keep her children on track. According to Radar Online, three months later she had dropped the suit.
The former couple seemed to have made a comeback in recent years. Kate tried to document her single motherhood in 2019 with the TLC series Kate plus Date. Jon and Colleen ended their seven-year-long relationship.
Jon isn't content to leave things as they are. A gag order of ten years was lifted in 2019, and Jon made shocking claims about his children. This led to their fractured living arrangements.
What are the Gosselin Kids doing now?
TMZ was informed by a lawyer representing Kate that all eight of her children would live with their mother at the time of the Gosselins' separation. But, the living arrangements have changed over time.
The College Life is Great for the Twins
Mady and Cara are now 22 years of age and live in New York. They attend Fordham University and Syracuse University respectively.
LinkedIn says Cara studies mathematics and economics with a minor in Spanish language, literature and economics. She is also a Division I female athlete on the women’s crew team.
Mady's ambitions are less well-known than we would like, but that is intentional.
"College feels like a place where you can blend in. She said that she feels like they haven't had much chance to blend in. "I don’t want everyone to know my name or my business. "I feel that a large college is the best way to go."
In 2022, the Sextuplets turn 18
The situation with the sextuplets is a little more complicated. Aaden and Alexis continue to live with their mom in Pennsylvania, but they don't reside in the sprawling Pennsylvania house where they were first introduced. Kate sold the house in February 2021 at $1.1 million. She then moved to North Carolina where she presumably resumed her reality-show career. She received her North Carolina Board of Nursing registered nurse license on June 30, 2021.
Jon is the primary custodian of Collin and Hannah. The proud dad shared a photo of his proud daughter on the first day of their junior year in August 2021.
Jon announced that Collin was enlisting in the military service the following November. Hannah celebrated her 18th Birthday later by releasing Gosselin Girl, her own skincare line. This was to fulfill her dream of owning her own business.
Except for the occasional public scandalous statement (more later), the children remain fairly quiet about their private lives and their relationships to their parents. This hasn't changed much from May 2022 when they became adults.
Jon is Jon close to his children?
Jon is currently in a relationship to Collin and Hannah, two of his eight children. In May 2015, he filed for full custody of Hannah. An insider told E! E! was informed by an insider that Jon filed for full custody of Hannah in May 2015. It's about helping his daughter."
"Hannah...it wasn't a good time for us, because...you know...they're growing older and making different choices and doing different things," Kate stated in an episode Kate Plus8 (via In Touch Weekly). She chose to stay with her dad. You know what? She made the right choice. Whatever."
Hannah stated that she has a stable relationship with her mother in a 2022 People interview. She said that they text and call each others on an "average basis." Hannah seems to have a great relationship with her parents, despite any differences.
Jon was granted custody of Collin in 2018.
Jon applied for full custody of Collin on Oct. 24, 2018. After Kate and her lawyer had been absent at the hearing, Jon's request was granted.
After the expiration of his gag order was over, Jon claimed to DailyMailTV shockingly that Kate had traumatized Collin and sent him away to a special-needs institution for three years. Collin allegedly wrote him a handwritten note that he also gave to the outlet. It read:
"I told Mom. She said no. But is that right? She cannot choose for me. I'm now old enough to know that I am YOUR son and not hers. She was abusive after I moved out of your home. I'm sorry. This is your chance to prove that you are my father, my savior...I rely on you to get me out. You are my Daddy. Please save me. Please hurry. You are my love. Please help me. BYE."
2020 Abuse Allegations
Collin, Collin's father, accused him of physical abuse in September 2020. Hannah quickly rushed to defend her father via an exclusive statement to Daily Mail.
She said that her dad was always there for Collin and me no matter what. He's been a loving, supportive father throughout all of it. My dad is trying to help Collin with many difficult issues. My dad is a father to us. He has never been cruel to us."
Jon stated that the incident was caused by a sibling dispute that escalated to something more.
"Collin became very upset and began acting out, so I intervened. He began throwing things at my car and causing damage to it. I confronted him, and he threatened to run. Collin has been a problem in the past. He ran away from us and I was concerned. I resisted his anger.
He said, "I didn’t punch or kick him. I restrained him. Which he clearly wasn’t happy about." He is 16 years old, he is a boy of 16. I restrained him, then I backed off, because it's the hardest thing you will ever do.
The police report concluded that the allegations of abuse were not supported by evidence. They live together with their father and have not been involved in any incidents.
Jon is Separated From The Other Gosselin Kids
Jon is not communicating with his other children at the moment.
He told People that the other four [sextuplets] don't talk to me but are talking to Hannah. It's what the children want to do. As long as they maintain their sibling relationships, it's okay if they don't want me to talk to them.
Jon has also separated from the twins.
Mady said that "he makes it seem as if we're being kept away from him," in 2016. "He might spend some time reflecting on why we don’t want to see him and perhaps realize that talking about us on television is not the best way to build a relationship with him if that happens."
Where are Jon and Kate Gosselin now?
Many speculate that Kate might have been in financial trouble and sold her home. Perhaps it was because Kate plus Date only survived one season that she received her nursing license. Kate, however, has been silent about her life. Even though she was not allowed to speak out on the $55,000 lawsuit against her that claimed she "willfully failed to or refused to pay employee contributions and employer contributions, reimbursement interest, and/or penalties required by U.S. Law."
Jon also returned to a simpler lifestyle. He appeared on Dr. Oz Show in January 2021 and said that he had recovered from a severe bout of COVID-19. The former reality star was asked by the host if there was anything that he would like to tell his children.
"Just tell them that I love them, and that I am just thinking about the future." He said that he hoped they would have a good relationship with Hannah, Collin and the other children he had split from. I hope to be a part of your lives one day. "I'm grateful that I was given another chance."
Jon began working at an Amazon fulfillment center in Pennsylvania after his recovery. He was appointed IT director at a non profit healthcare facility in May 2022. He continues to DJ at local bars and bowling alleys and has released a hip-hop track called "Voicemail" in 2022 with DJ Casper. Although it's been a long time since their TLC days we wish them both all the best.
