Josh Duhamel Reveals He's a 'Doomsday Prepper,' Building Apocalypse-Ready Estate in North Dakota

The 50-year old actor revealed that he is building a wilderness compound.

Josh Duhamel has built a "doomsday compound" in the woods to prepare for the end of the world.

In a recent Inverse interview, the actor, 50, revealed that he has "become somewhat of a prepper" and shared details about his lakeside property in North Dakota. He believes he, his wife, and their children "could survive off this estate someday."

Duhamel revealed that it all started with "one small cabin" which was devoid of electricity and water. The "Shotgun Wedding' star called the house "disgusting." He bought the cabin that was next door, a "beautiful, idyllic, little cabin on the lake."

"I own a tractor." I have a skid steer. I'm changing tires. I'm changing the oil. I fix things. Duhamel added, "I am learning to hunt. I'm also moving dirt and popping rocks." I fish."

The "Transformers'" star said that he has also become a bit of a farmer. "We shaped this land. We shaped the land. He told Inverse that he was "growing crops there", including chicory and clover to "feed deer" and pumpkins and other corn.

Duhamel replied, "It is called a food plot." I'm hoping to be able hunt a deer. "I'm no hunter, but my crazy obsession is what will happen if LA goes down and I need to move out and live off of the land with my family."

He continued, "I guess I've become something of a doomsday prepper." "I'm now learning to hunt. I have wells. We have water. We have water. I'm building so that if the worst happens, I can take my family to a safe place. I think we could survive on the land there. It's not perfect yet, but it's improving. It keeps my lizard brain active."

The actor of "Safe Haven," who is married with model Audra Marie and has a 9-year old son Axl, shared by his ex-wife Fergie, went on to explain how he got into "doomsday prep."

He said that he read the survivalist novel 'Patriots - Surviving the coming Collapse' in 1998. "It freaked me out just a little," he added.

He added, "And there was also a book or movie about these guys with this little community in which everyone had their own speciality." "One was weapons; one was canning; one was construction and one was medical. If you didn't bring anything to the group you were out. "I'm not saying that I'm crazy about it but it's a comforting knowing that I can survive out there."

Duhamel replied, "I am working on these skills." When asked whether he believed he had the survival skills he claimed, Duhamel responded, "I am working on them." I would not call myself a survivalist or an expert, but I am getting better.
