"This was Bob Saget's essence. He was a selfless, genuine and loving soul.
Josh Gad wrote a touching tribute to Bob Saget.
On Monday, the "Frozen” actor shared a touching tribute to Saget on Instagram. He posted a video message Saget left for his daughters Isabella, 7 and Ava, 11. The father-daughter trio spent quarantine watching "Full House."
"Full House was our favorite TV show a year ago. Bob and I shared that with Bob. It brought them joy in the darkest days of the pandemic. This video was sent to me within minutes. It brought us the same joy and smiles that it did for our family. It was hard to see through the tears, but this was the essence the selfless, genuine and loving soul that was Bob Saget," Gad captioned his post.
They met when Gad appeared on Saget’s podcast "Bob Saget’s Here For You". The two actors quickly became friends through mutual admiration for each others’ work.
Saget's portrayal as "Danny Tanner", on "Full House," was a strong catalyst for their bonding experience with Gad.
In the video, Bob addressed Josh's little girls, "Hi Ava, Izzy, it’s Bob Saget here. Danny Tanner right? "I'm older than the man you're watching on TV."
Saget said, "I just spoke to your dad for a first time and... You're just very lucky," Saget added. Saget said, "Ofcourse, he loves your guys so much and is just one of my most sweetest friends." Congratulation on being a great dad.
He said that he "became Danny Tanner" after the pandemic caused him to share a common obsession with cleanliness. "I use hand sanitizer every day, literally. It's always at me. I use microfiber cleaning rags. "I have become Danny Tanner."
Gad spoke about his grief over the loss of his friend, Hoda Kotb, during a SiriusXM interview on Monday's episode "The Hoda Show".
He recalled that his daughters had survived the pandemic by discovering Full House. "And Danny Tanner was my surrogate father after my parents divorced, and I was watching 'Full House,' and him being an anchor keeping his family together, it was kind of one of my greatest gifts.
He was a great human being. He was one those people who exuded joy and warmth, and always had a smile. "I was looking through all of our texts last night and noticed that each one began with a warm compliment or a genuine joy to reach out to me and tell me that something he did had moved him," Gad said.
