Officers arrived on the scene to be met by three boys fleeing the house.
According to Lt. Derrick Alfred, "They ran to the deputies and they were whisked away to safety." They were not physically injured.
They found a Hispanic woman, who had suffered multiple gunshot injuries, and a Black male, who died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot to the head.
People was confirmed by a spokesperson that the suspect was Justin Joseph, also known as J$tash.
The children, aged 5 to 11, were removed from the scene unharmed. They were all living in the same home as their mother, and are not thought to be related to Joseph.
An additional handgun was also found at the scene.
Lt. Alfred stated to KTLA that the evidence on the scene and preliminary information from the children at the home indicate it was a murder-suicide.
He stated that the couple had been together for approximately a year. Lt. Alfred didn't know if the 9-1-1 call had been made prior to or after the shooting.
Multiple outlets report that the victim was a California State alumna and mother to three Jeanette Gallegos.

NY Daily News reported that the rapper turned himself in to Brooklyn police after beating Danielle Phaeton unconscious and sending her threatening messages.
"A person that I believed and trusted, whom I gave all my love/time/energy to repeatedly punch me in the face with his fists, while I became slowly unconscious covered with blood in his Brooklyn apartment bedroom bed," she wrote in a Tumblr post at the time, with photos of her battered face.
She claimed Joseph had boarded a plane to Japan and texted her threats to "destroy" me more than he already had.
She wrote, "Do not take this as a cry to help. This is honestly a decision that to speak out against domestic violence for all those who cannot speak up due to the manipulative acts of our abusers to never speak up for them and for those who died from brutal domestic violence." I will not sit in the shadows and shame myself for not standing up. "I am standing up for all my female friends!"
Joseph denied the claims in an Instagram post. He claimed that his ex made "slanderous allegations" because they broke up.
According to reports, Joseph was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing as well as assault. However, the charges were dropped.
The rapper "Nuthin", who was previously signed to Rich The Kid’s record label, also admitted to selling drugs in his youth via his website.
Gallegos' sister Erika Chavez created a GoFundMe to help her. She described her as "the sweetest and most caring person. Always there for anyone who needs her."
"Live today, because tomorrow is not promised" was her favorite quote. Chavez wrote. "My sister has left behind three beautiful boys, who will have to live life with what's left of the memories made with their mommy."
