Dame Julie Andrews has a long and distinguished career. Her trademark four-octave singing voice and elegance give off an air of real-life royalty. It feels like we haven’t heard much from this legend performer in quite some time. How is Julie Andrews doing these day? We look into her career, life, and health.

Julie Andrews Turns 88 In 2023

Andrews was born October 1, 1935. She's still going strong today. She will be turning 87 this year. Although her career was enough to keep most people busy, she still managed to find time to be a mother of her three children and her two step-children. Blake Edwards, an accomplished screenwriter and film director, was her husband for 41 years. She has nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Julie Andrews' Career Began Over 75 Years Ago

Andrews' career has been very successful and has lasted more than 75 years. She discovered her unique singing voice at four octaves as a young girl. 1954 was her Broadway debut with "The Boy Friend." Two years later, she became a star in "My Fair Lady" as Eliza Doolittle. Over the next few years, her career exploded with television roles. Walt Disney asked Andrews in 1963 to play the lead role in Mary Poppins alongside Dick Van Dyke.

Andrews continued to earn more Broadway credits up until her role as the star in the movie musical The Sound of Music in 1965. The Sound of Music at the time was the highest-grossing movie of the day. It is still one of the most successful movies of all time.

Her remarkable talent and success have been rewarded with numerous awards, honors, and accolades throughout her career. She was awarded an Academy Award, two Primetime Emmy Awards and three Grammy Awards. She also received a British Academy Film Award and six Golden Globe Awards. As a tribute to her work in the performing arts, Queen Elizabeth II named her dame.

Is she still in good health?

Tragically, Andrews lost her singing voice in the late 1990s. Andrews had to have throat surgery in 1997 to remove a small cyst on her vocal chord. She suffered vocal cord damage, hoarseness and other complications after the surgery. She has never fully recovered.

Andrews was awarded a malpractice suit against Mount Sinai Hospital doctors in September 2000. However, her loss of voice didn't stop Andrews from going through depression. "I went into a depression. She described how it felt like she'd lost her identity to AARP.

Andrews, despite the loss of her singing voice and other health issues, is otherwise in good health at age86.

Is she still acting today?

Andrews's life took a dramatic turn after she lost her singing voice. She wasn't able to make the world happy with her art. She told AARP that her daughter Emma and she were asked to write books for children. "So, in my mid-60s, I was offered a new career. It was a wonderful surprise.

Andrews is a great author, as it turns out. Under her married name of Julie Andrews Edwards, she has published 36 children's book. Andrews won the Grammy Award for Best Spoken-Word Album for Children in 2011 for her narration of Julie Andrews Collection of Poems and Songs. Two autobiographies have been written by Andrews: Home: A Memoir Of My Early Years (2008) and Home Work: A Memoir Of My Hollywood Years 2019.

Despite her recent focus on writing, she has not stopped acting. She starred in The Princess Diaries in 2001 with Anne Hathaway, which gave her a second chance at her movie career. She has also taken on voice roles in recent years, such as Marlena and Queen Lillian in the Despicable me franchises, Lady Whistledown, and Lady Whistledown, in Netflix's Bridgerton.

Andrews seems to be able to do almost anything, and she does it all very well. She says that she would love to be able paint. I would love to be a great cook, but I am rotten. I lack the patience. However, I must admit that I am a very skilled whistler. Many singers are.
