Mariska Hargitay was made to an apology by Kathy Hilton after she was caught wearing lip gloss while giving her acceptance speech at the 2022 People's Choice Awards.

On Friday, "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," star of "Extra", spoke out about the viral incident and offered her apology to "Law & Order: Special Victims Un" actress.

Kathy and her RHOBH co-stars presented the award for The Drama TV Star of the 2022 to Mariska during Tuesday's People's Choice Awards.

Mariska said that this award was special because it represented what she believed in, and because the two words that are associated with the show were special to her. Mariska spoke about the inclusive nature of "people".

As she continued to talk about "choice", talking about the power of choosing things like kindness and compassion, building bridges between people, listening, learning, and courage, it became obvious that Kathy was not really listening.

Kathy reached into her purse and found some lip gloss. Mariska's sincere message was awkwardly lost in the midst of this moment.

The reality star spoke out about her experience and explained the reasons behind her makeup application in an interview with Extra.

Kathy stated that she thought she was going to sneeze. "I was searching for a tissue and a hanky so I got nervous. I put lipstick on during her speech, thinking that the camera wouldn't be focused on my face.

The actress then apologized, saying that she adored and respected Mariska. She also DMed her to express her regret. Mariska, I'm sorry. I look forward speaking with you."

She said, "I wouldn't do anything to be rude inadvertently and I'm really sorry, this was my first time back on the stage [after filming Season 12].
