Katie Holmes' Stylist Defends Her Viral Y2K Dress-Over-Jeans Look

One fan wrote, "I love Katie Holmes... but this cursed red carpet era is horrible."

Brie Welch is Katie Holmes' personal stylist and she has come to her defense after the actress went viral for wearing a Y2K look-over-jeans on the red carpet.

Welch spoke with The New York Times about the details of the "Batman Begins” star's attire for this year's iHeartRadio Juggling Ball concert. Holmes wore a long, blue tunic with baggy jeans and sneakers to the event.

According to the stylist, they had worked together on the look and that the final Y2K-inspired look was a combination of Holmes' styling and her personal taste.

Welch shared that Katie had designed the sneakers so she could dance all night.

She said, "On the Day of (and because Katie has an effortless style that should been appreciated here), she stated she wanted to wear sneakers because it was a concert, and there would be a lot dancing to Dua Lipa (and nothing more comfortable !).").

Welch also doubled down on her defense and said that the "Dawson's Creek” alum was "more capable of looking cool in an accidental trend 20 years later."

The stylist shared the article via Instagram. She pointed out that the dark-navy tunic was a top and not a dress. Holmes reposted Welsh’s Instagram Story on her own Instagram Story.

Katie's look caused a split in the internet with some admiring the actress and others praising her for bringing back fashion from the early 2000s.

A user tweeted that "This trend reared it's ugly head years back and frankly how dare Katie Holmes attempt to bring it back."

Another admirer praised Holmes for her fashion choices. "Katie Holmes single-handedly tried to bring back the mid2000s Disney Red Carpet aesthetic. Bravo to her.

"Please keep this era in the archives for the love and glory of god," a fan pleaded for the Y2K fashion not to be allowed. "I love Katie Holmes, but this cursed red carpet era is a terrible thing."
