Ke Huy Quan Recalls Reuniting with Steven Spielberg & Harrison Ford at the Oscars

"I couldn't help but to say that I couldn't resist. Quan spoke of the sweet moment that he shared on stage with Ford.

Ke Huy Quan opens up about the touching "Indiana Jones” reunion that took place during the 2023 Academy Awards.

Variety interviewed the star of "Everything Everywhere All at Once" who recalled his reunion with Steven Spielberg, his director of "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom", as well as his costars Harrison Ford and Kate Capshaw.

Quan, 51 years old, claimed he approached Spielberg's wife Capshaw and their seats during the commercial break after Sunday's win. Variety reported that it was the first time Quan had seen Capshaw for 40 years. The 51-year-old Quan then shared a sweet moment with Spielberg. He placed his hands on his shoulders and said to him, "You are now an Oscar winning actor."

As the broadcast ended, viewers saw Quan and Ford's on-air reunion. The two former co-stars hugged on stage and it became one of the most memorable and emotional moments of the evening.

Ford presented the last award for Best Picture to Quan's film "Everything Everywhere All at Once." Quan and the rest of the cast embraced Ford immediately after the actor announced that the A24 movie was the winner.

Quan spoke to Variety about the moment. He said that when Quan opened the envelope and read the title, it made our win in best picture extra special. When I ran up to him, I pointed at him, and he pointed back. I then gave him a hug. I couldn't resist. I want to show this man all my love. I gave Harrison Ford an enormous kiss on the cheek."

Quan, now 76, was famously given his big break by Spielberg when he cast him as "Temple of Doom" in the age of 12. Quan starred in Spielberg’s film "The Goonies" the year after.

Quan, when asked if he believed that he would be asked to appear in the third installment of "Indiana Jones", "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade", Quan said that he did not believe so. He then praised Spielberg for his success.

He said, "Steven has given to me so much -- and not one movie but two movies." "And they were among the first to feature an Asian actor in a major Hollywood movie."

Quan won the Oscar for Best Actor In a Supporting Role at the 2023 Academy Awards Sunday. This was for his performance in "Everything Everywhere At Once." Quan had previously stepped aside from acting following his breakout as a child star because he was not given enough roles. He is the Asian Best Supporting Actor, and the second Asian in Academy Awards history.

Troy Kotsur, Ariana DeBose and Ariana deBose presented Quan with the award. Their voices broke as they read Quan's name. He received a standing ovation and was already crying when he entered the stage.

"My mom is 84 and she's watching from home. "Mom, I just won an Oscar! Quan started. Quan said, "My journey began with a boat. I spent a year in refugee camps and ended up on Hollywood's biggest stage.

"They say stories such as this can only be told in movies. He continued, "I cannot believe it's happening." This, this is America's dream!

Quan thanked A24 and his loved ones before giving Jeff Cohen a heartfelt shoutout.

"Dreams can only be achieved if you believe in them." My dreams were almost abandoned by me. Quan said, "All of you out there please keep your dreams alive," before concluding his emotional speech. "Thank you, thankyou so much for welcoming my back. You are my hero.

Quan posted a reflection on Tuesday's Oscars win via Instagram. He first gave DeBose a sweet shoutout.

He captioned the photos with "@arianadebose is so kind to me everytime we've met" and included a collection of photos from that special night. I was watching her open the envelope and she began to cry. She then called my name with such affection. Ariana, thank you so much. ."

He said, "I hope everyone who watched Sunday night will find some hope in our victories because the impossible was just made feasible." Although it was a long journey, I wouldn't change a thing. It was a surprise to me that I would be able to inspire others. This is the most important part of this whole experience.

"Thanks to the Academy for one of the most memorable nights in my life. Quan said, "You have given me more than I could have asked for." "I feel overwhelmed and unable to express my feelings. I wish you could feel my love, gratitude and appreciation. All my love and gratitude. ."

DeBose was one of the celebrities to praise Quan in the comments section.

She wrote, "I couldn’t be happier to see you @kehuyquan." "I am so proud of you and the way you have walked this awards journey. Sir, you are a shining light in the world! Keep shining!

Kate Capshaw's younger sister Jessica Capshaw also wrote, "Ke Huy Quan!" YOU ARE PUREMAGIC. Your acceptance speech was beautiful, touching, heartfelt, and inspiring. I can't wait to see the amazing things you do next. I send you so much love! xx."
