Kelly Clarkson Changes Lyrics to Piece by Piece, Which Was Inspired by Ex Brandon Blackstock

Kelly Clarkson Changes Lyrics to Piece by Piece, Which Was Inspired by Ex Brandon Blackstock

Clarkson wrote the song "Super Hopeful" about her ex when she was "super hopeful". But, at her Las Vegas residency, Clarkson told the audience that "sometimes hopeless turns into hopeful", before introducing new lyrics with empowering messages.

Kelly Clarkson reclaims "Piece By Piece."

The OG American Idol released the song, which is from the album with the same title, in 2015. The song was written shortly after her marriage to Brandon Blackstock, and the birth of their first child. It is about her feeling complete and happy again thanks to her husband.

Clarkson, after a bitter divorce with Blackstock, decided to rework the track. She debuted a brand new version, which was empowering, during her Chemistry residency at the Las Vegas Strip over the weekend.

She said, "This song was originally written as a super hopeful song and sometimes that hopeless becomes the song," before performing it on Saturday.

In the original version, Blackstock is referred to by the line "piece-by-piece, he collected, me off the ground, where you left things". However, in the new song, the lyrics are about her own regaining faith in herself.

She sings: "But piece-by-piece, I picked me up, off the ground where you left things." "Piece-by piece, filled the holes you burned into me when I was six years old, and I walk away whenever they ask for money. I take care me because I love myself."

She continues by changing the lyrics to "Piece-by-piece, he restored his faith that man could be kind and fathers can stay."

In the song, Clarkson sings that Blackstock would not do the same thing as her father, and later in the song she talks about how she will never leave her children, just like her dad. Clarkson, in this version, only sings for herself. She also updated the lyrics so that they include her son Remington as she originally only had a single child.

"Piece-by-piece, I fell from the tree. I will never abandon them as you did. She sang, "They will never wonder about their value because I am putting them first instead of you."

The last line: "I won't walk away. I won't break their heart. When you leave scars, I'll handle the situation. I've rebuilt my faith piece by piece that a broken heart can still beat.

She told the Huffington Post, when she released her first single "Piece by Piece", that it was inspired by a conversation with her sister regarding their supportive husbands as well as their realization of just how different life is now compared to their childhood.

She said, "I guess I didn't understand the gravity of it until I had my child and experienced love as I do every day with Brandon." "I suppose you don't know that something is missing until it hits you. I couldn't imagine leaving my little girl. I can't even imagine losing that love. It was never there, so I didn't even know it was gone. It was a real revelation, and I wrote the song because of it. I think many people have that experience."
