During a Friday appearance on "The Tonight Show," Kenan Thompson, Kel Mitchell announced that "Good Burger 2 was coming" during a segment.
Kenan Thompson, "Saturday Night Live," star is so excited to return to the film and franchise that made him famous that he flew straight from an appearance on "The Tonight Show" in Hartford, CT to speak more about "Good Burger 2".
Fans were shocked when Thompson crashed the panel for "All That" at the convention. He was joined by franchise costars Kel Mitchell, Danny Tamberelli, and Lori Beth Denberg. Amanda Bynes was also scheduled to attend, but she pulled out at the very last moment.
Although Bynes didn't give a reason for her absence (which was already decided on Friday), Mitchell gave her a shout out at the panel's end, asking for the audience to send a prayer her way and encouraging her to feel better.
Thompson smiled as he spoke about the project. He told fans that he was filming this summer and that it should be released this year. It is expected that the film will be released in May, with a premiere scheduled for November on Paramount+.
Then he joked that - but you know what the fans will choose to believe -- "then perhaps do part 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7!" ... "Fast Furious"-style," before naming a few possible cameo stars that he would love to see in the revival, including Tamberelli (who was part of the original sketches).
I keep repeating Harry Styles. It would be a huge one, I feel. One Direction! Thompson crowing. Thompson crowed. Even if we don't get to see him, we will make sure that we have Sinbad. All the classic favorites, I believe. Barack Obama would be great.
Given how beloved the film is across multiple generations and all the connections that Kenan has made on "SNL", why not aim for the stars?
Currently, Kenan is in his 20th season as a late-night stalwart on NBC. Longtime fans will recall that Kenan made his big break on "All That," a Nickelodeon sketch show that aired in 1994. He was then spun out on a new sitcom along with his co-star Kel Mitchell two years later. Since then, the two have been close friends.
In 1997, "Good Burger" was their biggest collaboration. This film, which was based on an "All That" sketch in 1997, became a box office success for the network and a cult classic over the next 25 years.
The comedy duo has revived "Good Burger" multiple times over the years. They did so in sketches for "The Tonight Show" (2015) and a shocking twist with Keke Palmer for "SNL" last year.
For years, there has been talk about a sequel. Both stars expressed an interest in seeing that happen. Finally, all the talk is finally leading to action. According to the film's description, Dexter Reed (Thompson), and cashier Ed Mitchell (Mitchell), "reunite in the current day at Fast-Food Restaurant Good Burger with an amusing new group of employees."
Below is their official announcement on "The Tonight Show", as well as a sketch that introduces Jimmy Fallon and another Ed!
