Kirstie Alley Dead from Cancer at 71

Her family released a statement saying that she was surrounded by her closest relatives and had fought with great courage.

Kirstie Alley, Emmy Award-winning actress, has passed away from cancer. She was 71 years old.

True and Lillie Parker, her children, confirmed the news Monday via Alley's social networks pages. They also shared a statement about their mother's passing.

They wrote, "To all our friends far and wide around world... We are sorry to inform you that our incredible and fierce mother, just recently discovered, has died after a long battle with cancer."

The pair said that she was surrounded by her family and fought with great courage, leaving them with the certainty of her unending joy of living and all the adventures ahead. She was as iconic on screen as she was in real life, but she was a remarkable mother and grandmother.

Alley's children added that they are "grateful for the incredible team of physicians and nurses at Moffitt cancer Center for their care." Alley's children stated that their mother's "zest for life, her grandchildren, and her many animals, as well as her endless joy of creating were unsurpassed and leave them inspired to live life to its fullest, just like she did."

The statement concluded, "We thank you all for your love and prayers"

Alley had True and Lillie together with Parker Stevenson, her ex-husband. She was married to Parker in 1983. She was previously married to Bob Alley, from 1970 to 1977.

Alley was first seen as Rebecca Howe in "Cheers," where she won an Emmy Award, a Golden Globe and many nominations. She was also the show's headliner for "Veronica's Closet", "Fat Actress", and had her own reality series "Kirstie Ally's Big Life." Alley has also competed on "Dancing with the Stars," “Celebrity Big Brother," and Season 7 of the "The Masked Singer."

Film-wise, Alley is best known for her role in "Look Who's Talking", a movie that featured John Travolta and Alley. He posted on Instagram that Alley's death was a sad one, saying, "Kirstie was the most special relationship I've ever had." Kirstie, I love you. We will be seeing each other again, I am sure."

She was also seen in "Star Trek II - The Wrath of Khan", "Summer School", the 1995 remake of "Village of the Damned", "Drop Dead Gorgeous" as well as "For Richer or Poorer".

She was also a well-known spokesperson for Jenny Craig and for her role in the history of Scientology. She has become a controversial figure in recent years for her support of Donald Trump.
