Her family released a statement saying that she was surrounded by her closest relatives and had fought with great courage.

Kirstie Alley, Emmy Award-winning actress, has passed away from cancer. She was 71 years old.

True and Lillie Parker, her children, confirmed the news Monday via Alley's social networks pages. They also shared a statement about their mother's passing.

They wrote, "To all our friends far and wide around world... We are sorry to inform you that our incredible and fierce mother, just recently discovered, has died after a long battle with cancer."

The pair said that she was surrounded by her family and fought with great courage, leaving them with the certainty of her unending joy of living and all the adventures ahead. She was as iconic on screen as she was in real life, but she was a remarkable mother and grandmother.

Alley's children added that they are "grateful for the incredible team of physicians and nurses at Moffitt cancer Center for their care." Alley's children stated that their mother's "zest for life, her grandchildren, and her many animals, as well as her endless joy of creating were unsurpassed and leave them inspired to live life to its fullest, just like she did."

The statement concluded, "We thank you all for your love and prayers"

Alley had True and Lillie together with Parker Stevenson, her ex-husband. She was married to Parker in 1983. She was previously married to Bob Alley, from 1970 to 1977.
