Landon Barker Opens Up About Alcohol Abuse and Mental Health Struggles

Barker said that his struggle was "awful". He experienced heightened OCD and ADHD, as well as heightened anxiety.

Landon Barker, son of Blink-182's Travis Barker , opens up about his struggles with alcohol and mental health.

Barker, 20 , spoke with People to discuss his inspiration for the lyrics that he wrote for Machine Gun Kelly’s "Die In California."

Barker began by saying that the song was a kind of idea that came from a feeling about not liking who you were. "It's a song about mental health, and it was a kind of a journey, but it formed naturally into what it is now, supernaturally."

Barker also posted last year about his derealization experience, which is "a disorder where someone feels detached from their thoughts or body."

Barker revealed that it all began with a bad drinking habit. "I had been abusing this substance for months and was just abusing it. One day, it shocked me.

He continued, "It was horrible, and I experienced heightened OCD and ADHD, as well as heightened anxiety. All this while feeling disassociated and like I was playing a videogame."

I was watching the whole of my life on a screen. It was truly awful.

Barker shared that "he loves to spread awareness about suicidal thoughts and talk about them" because "if you keep it inside, it is a lot more difficult, and all the messages I received when I posted about this made me feel much better."

He said that he found comfort in asking the public for help and knowledge. Letting people know who I really am on social media platforms, or even through his phone, was also helpful.

Barker said that it was the concussion he suffered that made him stop drinking and confront his reality.

Barker said, "I had a concussion last year and my head was so badly bruised that I couldn't even drink." "When I had my concussion I was just forced to accept it, and for about three or four month I hated the world. It was awful."

He added, "I would go to the hospital every week because I was having such bad panic attacks." "The disassociation was first, and then everything got worse after my concussion."

Barker, despite his struggles, shared that, "ultimately, when you get through everything and get on the other side, and you see the light of what you have and people around you, honestly, the biggest inspiration for you to keep going is everything."
