Lea Michele Told to Get a Nose Job, Not 'Pretty Enough' For TV

Negative feedback was reminiscent of Barbra Streisand, her "Funny Girl", predecessor.

Lea Michele has opened up about the criticisms she received regarding her performance as a young actress.

The 36-year old "Funny Girl” star spoke out about some of the criticisms she received while talking to Town and Country magazine. She was speaking out about her Broadway role as Fanny Brice.

Michele said that she was told to get nose jobs as a child because she wasn't good enough for television and film. She also recalled having the same concerns about her appearance back in 1964 when she was a "Funny Girl".

The "Glee" alum claimed that Streisand had written her a "complimentary note" in which she congratulated her for her rendition of the role that the 80-year old played.

It was surreal and a beautiful moment. I was moved by the fact that she acknowledged me for my performance. It was beautiful and a handwritten note that I will treasure. Michele exclaimed, "She was incredibly kind." "It exists. It was possible, and I now feel that so many of my dreams could come true."

In 1977, Streisand talked about her struggles with critics who demanded she get a nosejob in an interview with Playboy Magazine. Streisand, a winner of the EGOT, admitted that she had considered going under the knife in her youth but couldn't afford it.

"When I was young, everybody would say, "You're gonna have your nose done?" She explained that it was a fad. All the Jewish girls at Erasmus Hall High School had their noses done every week. They took perfectly good noses and reduced them to nothing. "The first thing someone would do is to trim my bump. My bump is my love, so I won't be cutting it off."

Streisand claims that her nose job may have hindered her career. Streisand said her nose shape actually helped her sing, and gave her a unique sound.

"My deviated septum makes my voice unique." She added that if I had to have my nose fixed it would ruin my career.
