Producer Nate Moore and Costar Angela Bassett also addressed the controversy surrounding Wright's vaccination status.
Letitia Wright, along with the cast and crew from "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever", shared new details about the accident on set that left Letitia injured and prevented her filming in 2021.
Producer Nate Moore said Wright was filming a sequence on a motorcycle in Boston when the rig "clipped the median and sheared off the bike, and it fell," leading to Wright suffering a fractured shoulder as well as a concussion.
In a Variety profile, she stated that "I'm still processing" the film. It's still something I am working through in therapy. It was very traumatizing.
She went to London for recovery, and the schedule was changed so that production could concentrate on the scenes without her until she was back on set.
"I love these actors. This is me and [Chadwick] Boseman’s little sister. Imagine receiving that call from your little sister. It's the most horrible thing in the world," Ryan Coogler, director of Marvel, said about the incident. Coogler was in Atlanta at the time. Marvel's head honcho Kevin Feige stated that the accident, which occurred after Boseman's real-life death, was "particularly harsh" on a production already emotionally strained.
She returned to the set in January 2022 and stated that she "cried like an infant" when she was done filming. She also praised everyone for "overcoming adversities all along the way."
The actress shared a video on her Twitter account that expressed doubts about vaccines and COVID-19, making headlines during the shoot. The Hollywood Reporter claimed that she also made similar comments while on set. She said it was "completely untrue" on Instagram and she wasn't vaccinated.
Moore stated that she had never asked anyone about her vaccination status. She never spoke about her views in any way. We read stories that I thought were unfair because I don’t know the source. It's hard to believe that I wouldn't have heard it as someone who is literally right next to the monitor every day.
He said, "She was always the best professional and a pleasure to be around." She didn't cost us anything. Her injury was what cost us. It was not her fault."
Angela Bassett claimed that Wright never discussed vaccines on set. Wright's publicist apparently "interrupted" the call to demand the interview move on the next question when Wright was asked about her vaccine status during the interview. Although Wright initially agreed to answer questions regarding her status via email, Variety reported that her rep cited "schedule changes", which prevented this from happening.
Wright commented on THR's initial report about her vaccine skepticism. She said in an Instagram comment that she worked incredibly hard at her craft and that her main focus was always to produce work that is inspiring and impactful. This has always been and will continue to be my sole focus.
"Black Panther - Wakanda Forever” hits cinemas on Friday, November 11.
