The autopsy of Elvis Presley's child reveals that she suffered from a bariatric surgery problem for a long time, smoked one pack per day and had opioids in her system, but they did not cause her death.
The autopsy report of Lisa Marie Presley provides new insights into her death.
The coroner outlined the various health issues that led to the death of 54-year-old in January. Official cause of death was listed as "sequelae from a small-bowel obstruction", a result of previous bariatric surgeries. The coroner noted that adhesions formed after weight loss surgery caused the obstruction.
In the document, Dr. Juan Carrillo, Deputy Medical Examiner stated that "this is a long-term complication known to this type of surgery."
Presley died on 12th January. The report details her final hours, noting that she had complained of abdominal discomfort the morning before her death and was too sick to drive her children to school. Danny Keough, her ex-husband, went to the school and found Presley's heart stopped.
Danny took life-saving measures until the paramedics arrived. After she was admitted to the ER a pacemaker implanted. Presley was admitted to the intensive care unit, but a scan revealed that she already had a severe brain injury. She went into cardiac arrest shortly after and was declared dead later that day.
The decedent was known for overmedicating. She would forget to take her medication and then take it again.
Presley was hospitalized after experiencing abdominal pains for several months. They also found that Presley had a buildup of acid, which can be a sign of kidney failure or disease.
Presley complained of feeling "feverish, vomiting and/or nauseated" for several months before her death. The report also noted that Presley had a past history of high blood pressure, low blood sugar and depression.
Presley's toxicology report showed that she had opioids in the system when she died. The report notes that Presley had undergone another cosmetic surgery a few months prior to her death, and was prescribed pain medication. She was then admitted to Los Angeles Robles Hospital with an infection.
Norbuprenorphine, buprenorphine, and an antidepressant were also found in her system. The coroner concluded that none of these drugs contributed to her death.
The report stated that "the decedent was known for overmedicating. She would forget to take her medication and then take it again." She had a past of illicit drug and alcohol use. She was reportedly clean since 2015.
She also said: "She smokes approximately one pack of cigarettes per day."
Her mother Priscilla presley confirmed Lisa Marie's death in January. "It was with a heavy-hearted heart that I had to share the devastating news of her passing."

Lisa Marie was conceived in 1968. In 1977, Lisa Marie was just 9 years old when her father died of cardiac arrest.
Presley and Danny Keough had two children: Riley Keough , an actress daughter; and Benjamin, a son who committed suicide at age 27 in 2020. Both remained friends after the breakup.
She married Michael Jackson shortly after her divorce in 1994. She divorced him in 1996 and then married Nicolas Cage between 2002 and 2004. Michael Lockwood was her fourth husband in 2006. They welcomed twins Harper and Finley into the world in 2008. The couple separated in 2016.
Lisa Marie's debut album "To Whom it May Concern" was released in 2003. It featured the hit single "Lights Out." The cover of Don Henley’s “Dirty Laundry” on her second album "Now What" also made it to the charts. In 2012, her third album "Storm & Grace" was released.
Presley worked with Oprah Winfrey’s Angel Network and the Elvis Presley Charitable Foundation.
She was buried with her son Benjamin.
Presley's estate was litigated by her family in the months that followed her untimely death. In June, her daughter Riley became the sole trustee of Presley's estate.
