During a confrontation with police, he allegedly "dangled 2 small children in front of a second story window."

After allegedly storming a Massachusetts police station with a chainsaw, he fled to his home with his two children and locked himself in his house.

The incident began around 2:30 PM in Cohasset, MA. Police officers received a "frantic call" from their front desk attendant reporting that a male driver had driven across the station's lawn, struck a tree, then exited his pickup truck and entered the lobby revving a gasoline-powered chainsaw.

According to a police statement, "The man started to damage the lobby of station with the saw, and was chopping at security doors, trying to gain access into restricted areas where the attendant was."

Brien Buckley was later identified as the man. He then "fled" in that same truck and returned home to his home where he "began screaming at officers and dangled 2 small children in front a 2nd-story window." Both the children were under 5.

As police tried to calm the situation and get Buckley out of his home, a shelter-in-place order (from 3:40 to 9:15pm) was issued in the immediate area. The local authorities summoned the SWAT team from the region and hostage negotiators. However, Buckley became more unpredictable and the Cohasset Commanders granted SWAT permission to enter the house.

"He was agitated and went to the window, that gave us an opportunity -- we knew he wasn't with the children -- to take him into custody," Chief William Quigley of the police explained to WCVB.

Cohasset police stated that "the suspect was taken into arrest after resisting arrest"; they also said that he was "brought down with a Taser" and that the children were removed and reunited with their grandfather and mother at the scene.

Buckley, who was "known" by police to the department, was taken to a hospital to undergo a mental health evaluation. After a court appearance today, he was transferred to another facility for what WCVB described as "a more thorough evaluation."

He was charged with assault using a dangerous weapon to witt a chainsaw; damage to property (3-counts); child endangerment (2 counts); resisting arrest; driving to endanger; unlicensed operation of motor vehicles; disorderly conduct; disturbing the peace; and wanton destruction of trees.
