The father's stomach dropped when he saw a stranger in the kitchen during the Pennsylvania manhunt for Danelo Cavalcante, the escaped murderer.

State police continue to search for Danelo Cavalcante, a convicted killer who escaped from prison in Pennsylvania over a week earlier. They discovered that he had shaved his head and stolen a car.

A new detail, however, has revealed how the murderer escaped from prison and has survived since.

Local officials have issued warnings to residents in the area surrounding Chester County Prison. The convict is still on the loose.

Residents of Pocopson Township have described their "acute moments of terror" that occurred on September 1.

Ryan Drummond told CNN that he had seen Cavalcante at his house after his family went to sleep.

The father recalled that his daughter was nervous when he couldn't properly secure the French door on their patio earlier in the evening as they were preparing to lock up for night. Drummond assured his daughter that everything would be okay. Drummond heard a noise around 11:15 p.m.

Drummond, looking down from his bedroom said that he could see the French door leading to the patio on the first level was ajar, and noises were coming from the kitchen.

He tried to grab a knife to fight the intruder after alerting his family and checking their well-being. "In that moment, I realized how ridiculous it was... this murderer is surrounded by steak blades because we had steak that night." He then thought of an alternative way to scare the intruder off.

Drummond's quick-thinking led him to say, "I decided to turn the light switch on/off." "There was a brief pause, and then he flipped the switch at me in the kitchen. That was the moment of acute terror.

"I turned my wife. I said, 'he's downstairs. Call 911 now. At that point, there was a slight pause," Drummond said. "I didn't know if he would come up the stairs, in which case I'd have to go down. There'd be an argument."

He said that it was at this moment he first saw Cavalcante. "I saw him walking out of the kitchen and into the living area, not running but just walking slowly." He was wearing a white shirt and white hat.

He claimed that police arrived just moments after the intruder had left. Cavalcante is still on the run.

This summer, the killer was found guilty of murdering his former girlfriend in 2021. The 33-year old stabbed Deborah Brandao a total of 38 times, according to the prosecutors. He allegedly murdered her in front her two children after she discovered he was wanted in Brazil for another murder.
