After seeing the body, the man who claimed his daughter was friends of the victim said that he instantly believed it was murder.
A man called 9-1-1 on Sunday around 1pm to report that he had found a dead body while searching for Rachel Morin, the missing mother.
The caller who identified themselves to local ABC affiliate WMAR, as Michael Gabriszeski is now speaking about the discovery.
The Harford County Sheriff's Office issued a to the public on Sunday morning asking for help in finding Morin after her boyfriend had called authorities the night before saying that she hadn't returned from a stroll. He claimed that her car had been found near a trailhead but not Morin.
The search began the same morning with Gabriszeski's daughter, who had been friends with Morin. They and a friend of his daughter found her dead in a drain.
Gabriszeski said, "I told them to search tunnels because I felt about those tunnels." "I walked to one tunnel, and they searched that one. That's where she was found."
The state of the body made him believe that she had been murdered, according to the report.
"This should never happen in Harford County. They should catch the perpetrator of the trivial act. "I hope they prosecute the case to the fullest extent possible," he said, hoping the discovery of Morin’s body would at least provide some closure.
The Sheriff's Office issued a statement on Monday urging public assistance.
They wrote: "If you took pictures or videos on the Ma & Pa Trail or near it or the trailheads on Saturday and would like to share them with the investigators, please do so." There could be something in your photo that will help us solve the mystery.
The police added that they received 90 tips from "community members concerned" about the murder on Tuesday morning before thanking everyone.
Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler, during a press briefing on Sunday night, said that the case had changed from being a missing person into a murder after her body was recovered. He was reluctant to say what they found, but said that there were "indicators of murder" and detectives are "sadly" working on a homicide.
He continued by saying, "At this time, there's no suspect." Later, he reiterated: "There is no one that I could put in the category of a suspect. Zero."
He noted the attention that the notice the office sent to the public regarding Morin's disappearance received. He also warned those who were following the case "to be careful about what they say and to make sure their comments are factual."
While the authorities claimed that they did not have any suspects for the comments made on Sunday, many speculated about the involvement of Morin's partner in the comments by visiting the Facebook page.
According to an August 3 post on Morin's page, she has been dating Richard Tobin at least for a few months. She wrote in her first post about him: "Only began taking photos few weeks ago.. But these are some of my favorite." "From the beach to mountains."
Morin changed his relationship status on August 1 to indicate that he and the woman were dating.
Since then, his post has been inundated with comments by people who do not appear to have any connection to the couple and are only on his page due the case. The post was published with 430 comments. Some speculated about Tobin's possible involvement. Others warned commenters to refrain from doing so. Tobin has now limited who can leave a comment.
He wrote, "I loved Rachel, I wouldn't do anything to her. Let the family and me grieve." Yes, I do have a history but I am also 15 months clean. I've changed. Please."
