Moore claims that some of the payments she received for streaming This Is Us were "very small, like 81 cent checks".
Mandy Moore claims that the advent of streaming is affecting all union members, including A-listers such as herself.
The star, along with hundreds of other actors and writers, joined the picket line on Tuesday in support of the SAG AFTRA and WGA Hollywood Strike that has effectively halted production within the entertainment industry.
Moore claims that a source of income which was once reliable for actors is now all but gone in the age of streaming.

The residual issue is a big issue, the actress said THRat a Disney picket in Burbank. We're in an incredibly lucky position as working actors, having worked on shows that have been a huge success in some way or another. But many actors before us who were in the same situation for years could live off residuals or pay their bills.
Moore has received residuals from It's Us streaming platforms that ranged from a penny to "very small, like 81 cent checks."
She added, "I spoke with my business manager and he said that he received a residual of a penny plus two pennies."
Later, the actress took to Instagram to clarify that she knew she was in a "profoundly fortunate and rarified situation" when compared with many of her union colleagues.

I'd like to clarify a nuanced topic. Striking can be a drag. Everyone involved is hoping for a quick resolution so that people can return to work. It is devastating to see the trickle-down effects across so many industries.
There's a lot of things that are slowing down the process (transparency of data, wage increases and residuals, artificial intelligence, etc ...)) but I chose to focus on one issue that was top of mind after a picketing conversation.
I am in a very fortunate and rare position as an actor right now, and I do not take it for granted. I also do not assume that this will be the case forever. In the 20+ years I've been a performer my career has fluctuated. In the past I have had years when I could not get a job. Those were precisely the times where actors in the past could rely upon residuals to get them by. I hope we can find an effective solution to the changing world of business and how it affects actors.
While I'm happy to use the platform that my previous jobs have provided me with to discuss issues affecting my fellow @sagaftra families, I realize my experience is mine.
Let's hope we get a fair deal soon, so we can return to the jobs that we love and miss.
Moore pointed out that residual payments used to be a steady source of income for actors who received a payment each time an episode or film was replayed. This was especially relevant because of the unpredictable nature of the industry, with many actors experiencing long dry spells between gigs.
Actors like Moore now claim that the calculations of how much they should receive when a streamed show is not clear, which has led to a vastly reduced pay.
SAG-AFTRA wants to pay actors 2% of revenue from streaming platforms.
The union will use Content Valuation by Parrot Analytics to measure revenue. AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers), could not reach an agreement.
