Heidi's experience competing on DWTS prompted Marc to talk about separating the family and tensions within it.

Marc and Heidi D'Amelio open up about the Dancing With the Stars drama which nearly ended their marriage.

TooFab spoke with the couple before the season 3 premiere of their Hulu Reality TV series, D'Amelio's Show. They shared how they overcame it and revealed what they are doing today.

Marc shared how difficult it was for the family to be "inaccessible" when Heidi and Charli, their daughter Charli d'Amelio who won the competition series was unavailable.

He added, "They were driven to go the farthest they could. No one told us that this was going to change our lives. I think it affected me, because we are so close.

Marc was feeling lonely at the time. He revealed on the show that he and Heidi were arguing almost every night while Heidi was on . This led to talk of a family separation.

Marc said, "I have had some time to reflect, and I believe that leaving the East Coast to be in California and not being able to contact my family and friends, as well as having Charli not available for such a long time, was definitely difficult. But I do think there is a positive side to it."

He continued, "They were missing." If Heidi had been busy for 10 consecutive weeks and I did not care, that would be an even bigger problem.

Heidi thought that this was one of the few times in her life she could do something for herself. She shared with the audience, for the first time, she wasn't Charli's mother, Dixie D'Amelio's wife or Marc's spouse, but she was Heidi.

Heidi told TooFab that it was "hard" and emotional for her to be in the spotlight.

It was hard. Heidi said, "I almost quit four day before the first episode because I didn't want to -- we were doing interviews at that time and they asked me all these personal questions." It went from zero up to one hundred.

She said, "I used to be in this supportive role, like, of the family, and 'how can I get you guys to where you want to go, because I'm good here?' But it wasn't that way. It was very emotional and really difficult.

Heidi hung in there and placed eighth at the series of dancing competitions. It was a learning experience that helped her grow as a mother and wife, as well as as a human being.

The mother of two said, "Every day was an effort, because time was not on my side when I was doing Dancing With the Stars. It was pushing me." "I got something that would have taken me years to achieve, in just 10 weeks. It was both hard and great. We went through a difficult time, but we came out stronger." I felt so much better.

Dixie D'Amelio Discusses Living with PMDD and the Impact on Relationship with Charli.

She added, "I've learned to communicate more." When Charli, my sister, and I returned to our family following the Dancing With the Stars experience, I felt I had so much to give and wanted to become an equal member of this family."

Heidi continued, "It opened up a new lane in our relationship which we didn't really have before." It's been great.

Marc was not the only one to struggle while Charli, Heidi, and their eldest daughter Dixie were on . The TikTok star told TooFab that it was a learning experience, but she would never do it again.

"I think we've gotten closer as a family over the past few months," Dixie said, whose discussion with her father over the drama was teased in this season. It's hard because we never expected to have to deal with this. We were so good at our core.

She added, "Obviously, it's not something I would want to do again, but we learned a lot that can be applied in every relationship."

Marc concurs, telling TooFab the family has "absolutely improved" as a result.

He said, "This was a test for us." It was also a reminder to us all about how much love and dependance we have for each other.

Marc continued, "I believe that now, issues that may have been big a year or two ago, aren't that big a deal anymore. We work through them." "I think it was a gift in disguise."

The D'Amelio Show Season 3 premiered on September 20. New episodes will be released every Wednesday.
