Matthew McConaughey Details Dropping 4,000 Feet During Plane Turbulence: 'I'm In Shock'

Matthew McConaughey Details Dropping 4,000 Feet During Plane Turbulence: 'I'm In Shock'

Kelly Ripa spoke on Kelly Ripa’s podcast and said that he felt "completely lost of control, a 100% feeling, of, 'I’m not in control'".

Matthew McConaughey still struggles to recover from his horrific in-flight experience.

The 53-year old actor spoke out about the Lufthansa flight that he took with his wife Camila, and how it dropped to 4,000 feet.

It's suspended disbelief. He explained that it was zero gravity. Your red wine, the glass, and your plates are suspended in the air, floating still in the air. It was amazing how it all fell apart.

McConaughey described the experience as "a terrible scare" and said that it was a complete loss of control. He felt a 100% sense of being 'not in control'. This situation is beyond my control.

"Interstellar," the star of the show, revealed that he didn't have a seatbelt on at the time. He claimed that there wasn't a warning light to warn passengers about incoming turbulence.

"My tray table is what kept me down. He continued, "I didn't have my seatbelt on and there wasn't a warning right before it happened." McConaughey stated that he immediately reached out to Camila and made sure her seatbelt was on after the incident.

"[We] just held hands and said, 'OK, it's that? Is another one coming? It did arrive. It was strange. It was interesting to hear the reactions of people. Some people were almost silent. People laughed out loud. It wasn't like, "Oh, this is great!" It was more like "I'm in shock," the "Dallas Buyers Club” star said.

The couple were accompanied by a friend, who was a pilot. McConaughey was relieved that his friend had assured them there was nothing to worry about in the rough turbulence.

"As someone who isn't a pilot, I think about the engineering of the plane. It buckled because of the steel. It buckled. He thought back. "I was fortunate to have a friend who was a pilot sitting beside me. He was as calm as you could wish for. I asked him, "Can the plane hold that?" He was like, "Can the plane hold that?" It was a great relief.

He joked to his friend that he was like "If something's not right, can you fly it?" He replied, "No problem." He was like, "No problem." I was like, "Great, love to hear that."

McConaughey acknowledged that it was "the most difficult flight I've ever taken."
