McCain, who was blessed with her second child last month, said, "It's horrible, unfair, and disturbing -- and it refuses."
Meghan McCain speaks out about the popularity of Ozempic, as Hollywood turns to the anti-obesity and antidiabetic drug for weight loss.
The former View co-host, who spoke out about the topic in an op-ed published on DailyMail.com, explained that she was "urged" by her doctor to use the drug after the birth of her second daughter, Clover.
"I just gave birth, and I'm being encouraged to take a miracle shot of Ozempic to quickly melt off the baby weight. It's shocking, unfair, and disturbing -- and it's what I refuse to do," McCain 38, wrote in the article. The article was published Monday.
Television personality, who shares Liberty, a 2-year-old girl with husband Ben Domenech, began her segment by saying: "I just had my baby four weeks ago, but you wouldn't believe the things I'm hearing."
"Yes, I am asking all the usual questions: Does she sleep? Are you sleeping? It is obvious that the answer is "no." The obvious answer is "no." Excuse me?" McCain wrote. McCain wrote: "In case your unaware, there's a new'miracle drug' that's sweeping the country. You can melt away the pounds with one injection once a week for just $1,000
Conservative commentator Elon Musk pointed out that the drug is now "popular" in Hollywood. He named some celebrities, including Chelsea Handler and Kyle Richards, who have either admitted to using the drug or are rumored have used it.
McCain wrote that Chelsea Handler admitted publicly to having taken 'the shot', but claimed she didn't know she was doing it. "Elon Musk claims he uses it. Kyle Richards of Real Housewives fame who has recently shown off her newly sculpted abs, denies using it. Jackie Goldschneider, a fellow reality TV star, claimed that 'a lot of' her cast members are on it.
"Ozempic seems to be the hottest trend in the media industry." It is rumored that many of the people you see on television are using the drug. I can understand that some people are obese and may need Ozempic. But I'm not one of them. It is the reason I am so amazed at how many people, casual friends or industry acquaintances have brought this up to me."
"I hear that everyone is doing it," as if that were a convincing case. "Just take the shot," as it is commonly known, is what I hear. McCain said that someone even offered me a freebie in black market by offering me 'extra shots at the home'.
Before explaining why she refused to take Ozempic and why it is a "moral issue", the "Bad Republican" author said that it "threatens" all the steps taken in the body positive movement.
"I'm going to be very clear. It's not mine. She said, "I refuse." There is a clear moral issue. It is difficult to take a drug when swimsuit season is just around the corner. However, others are dependent on it for their survival.
"Over the past several decades, our culture has made remarkable strides toward body acceptance. McCain added that Ozempic celebrations could threaten all of this. "I'm realistic about the time it will take for your body to feel normal again after having a baby. Don't rush me!
The columnist stated that she, as a mother, has the "responsibility" to "set an example for my daughters who will face the same beauty standards one day." She said that their world would only get more difficult as social media penetrates deeper into American minds. This is not the kind of world I want for them, and it's not the one I want for me."
McCain concluded her op-ed with a summary of her thoughts. She wrote, "As to Ozempic. I would rather have some extra pounds than get myself high on medicine. It's not worth it to have something that is easy to obtain. That goes for both my health as well as the health of my daughters."
