After they met on the set of Heavenly Creatures, Winslet once said that her friendship with Winslet was "more intense" than many love affairs.
Melanie Lynskey opens up about Kate Winslet, her friendship and the heartbreak she felt when they drifted apart.
Winslet and Lynskey starred in Peter Jackson's 1994 thriller, "Heavenly Creatures". Lynskey spoke out on the podcast "Happy Sad Confused", about her friendship and how she felt when Winslet drifted away from her.
She revealed, "It was heartbreaking to lose touch with Kate."
Lynskey added, "It wasn't as if anything had happened. It was just painful." "She became an international movie star and didn't have much time. Then, suddenly, she would be in Los Angeles without having time."
"Heavenly Creatures", based on Juliet Hulme's story (who went by the pen name Anne Perry later), tells the tale of a fifteen-year-old Juliet Hulme who killed the mother of her best friend. Perry died recently after a long and successful career as a mystery novelist.
Lynskey talked to Time in 2012 about her relationship with Winslet.
She said, "Our relationship was intense. It was more intense than any love affair I've ever had." "We had such a strong bond that we could not let go for a very long time."
We would always write to each other and speak on the phone. She continued, "We were in constant communication for so many years." Around the time she starred in 'Titanic,' her life became crazy as she was a star. After she filmed the movie, I stayed with her and we lost contact.
Lynskey is still full of praise for "Mare of Easttown's" star, despite their friendship ending.
"I admire her so very much." She is brilliant and brave. "I have literally seen all that she has done."
