Police say her ex-husband was arrested in connection to her homicide. They spoke with the victim's mom before the body was discovered.

After the body of Rachel Castillo, a 25-year old mother from Simi Valley, California, was found in Antelope Valley on Sunday, the search for her disappeared child came to an abrupt halt.

Castillo was reported missing on Thursday, November 10, 2010. Police responded to a 9-1-1 request to Castillo’s apartment. Emily Castillo, Castillo's sister, found "evidence" of a struggle inside. Simi Valley Police Department stated that "a substantial amount of blood" had been found in the house and Rachel's location was "unknown."

She had left her cell phone, car keys, and vehicle at home.

Authorities released a new update on Sunday saying that her remains were found earlier in the day.

Officers concluded that there was a serious crime committed based on the evidence collected at the scene. Rachel was placed in the Missing Persons System. The SVPD Detective Bureau responded on the spot and took over the investigation. Simi Valley PD stated that detectives have been continuously working since then to locate Rachel, and to develop leads in this case."

They continued, "This afternoon Detectives found human remains of an adult male in remote locations within the Antelope valley." The remains were identified by Rachel Castillo by the Detectives and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office.

According to authorities, Zarbab Ali (Rachel's ex-husband of 25 years) is the "primary suspect" in the case. SVPD added that he was taken into custody at Rachel's parents' house "in connection with Rachel's homicide."

Police stated that the investigation had "really evolved in the last few days." This case is still under investigation. Some details can't be released because of legal and investigative reasons. Additional information regarding this case will be released by the Simi Valley Police Department when it becomes available.

Robyn Castillo, Rachel's mother, told ABC 7 that she spoke with Ali over the weekend and called it a "very common" conversation.

She told the outlet that her son had grandchildren and she had text him to check on them. He offered to videochat so that I could see my grandsons. He allowed me to speak to my grandsons, and I expressed my concern. I told him that we are doing all we can to help them. He said he was sorry and hoped she was okay. It was a normal conversation.

She said, "I really didn’t expect it would turn out like that," adding that Ali and her daughter had what ABC 7 called an "mostly amicable" but with some difficulties.

Castillo and Ali had two sons, aged 2 and 5. According to the LA Times, she filed for divorce proceedings in January.

Ali apparently posted on Facebook after she disappeared, asking for any information. "If you have any information, please contact the Simi Valley Police at 805-883-5995!" He wrote Saturday morning. He wrote Saturday morning, "She's been missing from Thursday!"
