According to the Machado's family attorney, the body of the 44-year old actor was found with signs that it had been strangled.

Jefferson Machado, a South American soap opera star who was missing since January, has been reported dead in Brazil.

According to Rio de Janeiro's R7 news outlet earlier this week the body of the 44-year old was found buried in a chest and covered with concrete in the backyard a home located in Campo Grande in Brazil.

Jairo Magnhaes, the Machado lawyer, announced Machado’s death in a Facebook statement.

Magalhaes stated, "It's with sadness that I share with you the sad news about the death of Jeff Machado. His body was discovered with signs of strangulation." This discovery exposes the cruelty in our society and motivates us to pursue truth and justice when faced with such a shocking case.

"Preliminary reports indicate that the actor's corpse was discovered in a trunk buried in an enormous hole. "This situation is deeply saddening and we are indignant at the suffering Jeff has endured," he said.

Magalhaes continued by stating that he "commits himself as an attorney to seeking truth and justice tirelessly" and "has the responsibility to ensure that all those involved in this violent crime are held accountable and punished and that Jeff's Family finds the support that they need to help them through this painful time."

Magalhaes elaborated further on the condition of Machado’s body while speaking with R7. Magalhaes stated that Machado was suffering from "strangulation" signs on his body.

The lawyer said, "He was buried with his arms behind his back and in a trunk very similar to those in his house."

Magalhaes told R7 the house where Machado was found to be rented by a friend. The outlet noted that authorities are investigating the friend.

According to R7, Machado, who stars in the Brazilian telenovela "Reis," was reported missing by his family and friends on January 27. According to the outlet, his family and close friends contacted authorities after learning that he had left his eight dogs unattended. This was not in keeping with his nature of being a lover of animals.
