The Grammy-winning singer told ABC News that the incident was "very scary" because she didn't want anyone to get hurt.
R&B singer Monica speaks out after she paused Saturday's concert to stop an apparent fighting between two fans.
In an ABC News interview that aired Thursday, the Boy Is Mine singer described the horrifying incident in which she jumped from the stage during her performance in Detroit, Michigan, to stop the alleged altercation.
Monica said that she intervened after witnessing a man "strike what appeared to an older woman".
She recalled, "Saturday evening at the Detroit Festival, I was mid song when I could feel that things were heating a little bit."
Monica said, "When I glanced up from the microphone, I saw what looked like an older woman being struck by a man." "That in itself triggered me, but I was also very scared because it was the last thing I wanted to see someone hurt."
She added, "I jumped off the stage to stop everything, make sure that both people were safe, separated and went home safely."
ABC News reported that Monica had previously broken up a fight at her concert in April.
The Grammy-winning artist said that she hopes to keep her concerts "the same" but added, "What happens when the events occur is what needs to change."
She added, "There will be more discussions with venues as this is something that venue security should handle."
In fan videos, Monica, 42, stopped her performance after she witnessed the alleged altercation. She then called out the man, before getting off the stage and confronting him.
Monica replied, "Don't hit her that way." You don't hit a f---in lady like that.
She apologized for the incident when she returned to the stage.
Monica said, "I saw him punch the lady in her face [and] I lost f---in’ temper." "I apologize, ya'll. "I apologize from the depth of my heart."
The so Gone artist went on to write a comment about the incident in a post shared on Sunday by The Shade Room.
"I apologized then & now I'm sorry here for my actions, but no one took action! " Monica wrote. "I was so triggered that I watched and she didn't seem to know him!" "It appeared to be about the space at a packed concert."
"He punched with all his power!" she continued. "I was trying to stop her from getting hit again, but she didn't!"
I asked for help but it was ignored! I felt like my aunt or mother was being abused! This woman was over 50 years old. I hope she is okay!! Monica added.
Andrus Macdonald - a spokesperson from the Riverfront Music Festival - released a statement on Sunday regarding the incident. He expressed their gratitude to Monica for her intervention.
Macdonald, according to CBS News Detroit, said: "First of all, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to Monica for the courage and decisive action she took during an unfortunate event at our Festival." Her actions showed a commitment to safety and respect for her fans. This reinforced our belief that she's not only an extraordinary artist, but also an extraordinary person.
"We're deeply saddened by the fact that an event intended to bring joy and harmony to our community has been marred by violence." We condemn all forms of violence against women and are working closely with local authorities to hold those responsible accountable. Our festival attendees should know that the safety and well-being of our artists, audience and staff is always our number one priority. We also want to thank our festival-goers for their patience and tolerance throughout the event. "Your cheers for Monica embody the spirit of the music and community we celebrate."
The latest incident follows injuries to performers on stage.
