Just recently, King Charles and Camilla Queen Consort met with crowds in Scotland for their first public engagement after Queen Elizabeth's royal mourning. While King Charles might have lost his title, his love for Scottish kilts is not.
First Public Engagement of King Charles and Camilla
Camilla and the king traveled to Dunfermline in Scotland for a ceremony which officially conferred city status on the former municipality. The event was part Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee celebrations. King Charles stated that the event would "gladden [my dear mother's] heart, as it certainly gladdens my own."
King Charles and Queen Consort strolled the streets of Dunfermline greeting people and shaking hands. Many Scots were delighted to see the King wearing a traditional Scottish Kilt made from a blue-and-green tartan.
The Different Royal Tartans and Their Significance
The royal family wears many tartans, each with its own meaning. Some tartans can only be worn in certain circumstances. For example, the Balmoral tartan was only permitted to be worn by the queen or her personal piper. If they wanted to wear the tartan, other members of Queen Elizabeth's royal family would have to ask her permission.

King Charles celebrates Dunfermline as a New City Status
During his speech at ceremony, the King shared the excitement of Dunfermline residents at being designated an official city. He said, "As Scotland's newly named city, I cannot but express my deepest congratulations and best wishes for the future."
King Charles said, "I was thrilled when it was announced in May that Dunfermline was one the eight communities to be granted city status to commemorate the late queen's Platinum Jubilee." "There is no better way to honor my beloved mother's extraordinary service than to give this honor to a place that has been renowned for its long and distinguished history and the vital role it played in the development of our country.
King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla's appearance showed UK citizens and royal fans around the world what they can expect from the couple in coming royal engagements--including what they're going to wear. We are eager to see how the king's kilt collection evolves during his reign.
