Pat Sajak was born October 26, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois. He wanted to be an entertainer since he was young. He worked as a disc jockey in the army, and then he went on to radio. According to the Wheel of Fortune host, he was influenced by talk-show hosts of the '50s & '60s.

Sajak stated that "there's certainly not show business in my blood," in a 2012 interview for Stanford University’s Hoover Institution. It is something that I have always wanted to do. I grew up watching Jack Paar's television show The Tonight Show. He was a sort of my idol. I used to sneak out of bed every night to not go out with the men or get a beer, but to watch The Tonight Show to see what Jack was doing. By the way, we became close friends later in our lives.

After years of DJing at radio stations across the country, Sajak was offered the chance to be a substitute weatherman for the local news station in Nashville. He was offered a full-time job as a weatherman at KNBC-TV Los Angeles. While he also filmed a few game show pilots, that led to him being hired. He was chosen to host Wheel of Fortune in 1981. The show had been broadcast since 1975 and Chuck Woolery was the presenter.

Sajak was Wheel of Fortune's host for many years. He also hosted a variety of other shows, including his own talk show, Pat Sajak Show. However, he continued to host Wheel of Fortune. He said that he enjoys the fact that he is able to be in people's homes every night by hosting the show.

In an interview with the Television Academy Foundation , Sajak said that "we became in this strange manner part of peoples' lives, almost their entire lifecycle." "It wasn't dinner time, they played wheel, and we just became part the atmosphere. It's almost like watching the sunset. You might not be able to go out every night but it's still nice to see it. It's a comfort to people and it would be strange if we didn't exist. It's amazing to be there. I don't know how it happened.

Sajak won the Guinness World Recordtitle in 2019 for his longest tenure as a host of a game show on the same program.

Is He Still On Television Today?

He is sure! Both Vanna White and Sajak are signed on to continue their roles on Wheel of Fortune until 2024. He is also active on Twitter where he enjoys sharing his humorous sense of humor.

Sajak, 76, is clearly considering retirement. Although he can't confirm what he has in mind, he admits that he may be considering quitting the Wheel. Sajak stated that he is closer to the end than the start in a 2021 interview with En . "I would like to leave before people look at me and ask, 'What happened to him?'

Sajak might be putting off retirement in order to keep his large paycheck. According to CelebrityNetWorth the annual salary for the game show host is $15 million.

Sajak said that he didn't know what the pain was, but within two and half hours, he was in surgery. It was intense and fast.

Sajak was able to recover fully after the doctors were able operate on the injury and fix it in the shortest time possible. Sajak was back to work in less than a month. He said that he was as good as new and that it was great. "I have my wits around me. They didn't take that away, so I'll continue to sell vowels for a while."
