His YouTube channel holds the title of most-viewed YouTube channel for more than 2 years and has been viewed more than 27 million times. This Swedish-born YouTube star is not an exception. What is PewDiePie worth? We reveal the truth about his huge fortune.
PewDiePie's real name is Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg
PewDiePie was conceived Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, Gothenburg, Sweden on October 24, 1989. As a child, he was an avid gamer and attended Chalmers University of Technology for several years before dropping out in 2011.
Kjellberg's PewDiePie channel was launched in April 2010. He posted mostly "Let's Play” commentaries about popular video games such as Minecraft, Call of Duty and Amnesia, The Dark Descent. According to Kjellberg, he didn't know that he could make a living from posting his gaming videos on YouTube.
He said that he knew there were people who were successful at other video types, but not in gaming. The Guardianin 2015 "It wasn't a career I could quit college to pursue. It was something that I enjoyed doing. It was more important to me that I could make videos than that I had to work a few hours per day at a job that wasn’t very prestigious.
PewDiePie started out working odd jobs to pay for his videomaking, such as hot dog selling. PewDiePie began to make some money from his hobby after he started adding weekly vlogs into his "Let's Play” video content in the fall 2011. By December 2011, the channel had 60,000 subscribers and exploded to one-million subscribers in July 2012. He had 19 million subscribers by December 2011 and was the most subscribed YouTube channel.
PewDiePie Has A Long History Of Controversial Moments
PewDiePie's popularity grew steadily over the next decade. His videos were viewed more than 300,000,000 times per month by December 2015 and his channel was the first to reach 50 million subscribers. His stardom was not without its setbacks. He was involved in numerous controversies.
PewDiePie was criticized for using a racial slur during one of his "Let's Play” gaming videos in 2017. He was again criticized for posting a video joke in which he asked participants to carry signs reading "Death To All Jews" several days later.
He said, "I am sorry," in a video. "I was not sure [the sign holders] would do it. I am partially responsible. I have to give them five stars because they were able to provide me with an exceptional experience. I don't feel good. This is not something I feel proud of, and I won't lie. I am not antisemitic or whatever it is called. It was funny, but I wasn't sure it would work. I swear I love jews, I love 'em."
PewDiePie lost a lucrative deal from Walt Disney Co., and YouTube had to remove his channel from their premium advertising program. YouTube Red cancelled the next season of his show, scare PewDiePie.
PewDiePie was again in trouble later in the year for using another racial slur on a live stream. In December 2017, PewDiePie shared and recommended a YouTube channel that was clearly antisemitic. PewDiePie said he didn't know about the channel's offensive content. "The channel creator apparently likes to hide and not-so hidden Nazi references in his videos, and obviously if that were the case, I wouldn't be referencing him in the shoutout."
PewDiePie At One Point Made Over $3,000 Per Minute Off His YouTube Videos
PewDiePie's controversies haven't made much of an impact on his income, which is a good thing for him. According to reports, he earned $12 million in 2019, and $15.5 million dollars in 2018. This equates to $3,319.71 for each minute of video. The YouTube star says that despite his wealth, he doesn’t like the way that so much attention is paid to his fortune.
He said that it seemed like the entire world cares more about how much I make than I do. We did raise one million dollars for charity. However, very few articles covered that fact, but you can see everywhere I make money. "I don't believe there's any reason anyone should care. On top of that, I don’t believe there’s any good reasons why I should care either. So we're going to end it there.
PewDiePie Subtly Discredits His Reported Net Worth
How much is YouTube's YouTube mogul worth? The exact number is still unknown. According to CelebrityNetWorth.com, PewDiePie's net worth is $40 million. In a video, however, he claims that this figure is incorrect and that he could be worth more.
"C'mon! He says, "C'mon!" He says, "I'm not going gonna say, obviously, I'm never going to talk money and how much I make, but $40 Million?" C'mon!"
PewDiePie says that, regardless of the number, wealth is not the only key to a happy life. He says that you only need to see it for yourself to understand how much it does for your happiness and well-being. It's just that we place too much emphasis on it. Although [Money] can be very useful and is a great thing, I believe that we romanticize fame and money in general."
