Authorities don't believe that the Heisenbird, so called by "Breaking Bad", was working alone.
Canadian authorities arrested a pigeon with a backpack containing meth in a Canadian prison yard. Authorities don't believe that he was alone.
The "Heisenbird", or as "Breaking Bad" fans have called it, was captured at Abbotsford's Pacific Institution, just east Vancouver at the tail-end 2022.
On December 29, authorities reported that they saw a pigeon in a backpack made of fabric. They set up a trap to capture the bird. The animal was found to have crystal methamphetamine in its possession upon capture (it is not known if it was the "Blue Sky" strain).
According to John Randle (Pacific regional president of Union of Canadian Correctional Officers), it was the first time that prison officials saw a live bird being used for drug transfer, according to the Vancouver Sun.
Randle stated that drones carrying contraband are becoming very popular.
"My first reaction was shock due to all the technological advances and the numerous drones that we have seen. It's unusual that it's attached to a bird is what we call abnormal," said the official.
"They are behind in technology. Maybe it's because they have been working with drone interdiction to find new ways to get contraband into the country without being detected."
