According to police, it is "extremely troubling" that the suspect has not been released from prison for his past crimes.
Oregon authorities are looking for a suspect in the kidnapping and attempted murder of a woman he kept captive. This is less than two years after the man pleaded guilty to the same crime to a Nevada ex-girlfriend.
After responding to a Tuesday assault call, Grants Pass police released photos Wednesday of Benjamin Obadiah Foster (36). Officers arrived to find a victim of an assault on Tuesday in Grants Pass. She had been severely beaten and bound into unconsciousness. Authorities said that the victim was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
Foster fled the scene "before officers arrived", but was positively identified. According to police, Foster is "known to have been armed and should not be considered extremely dangerous." He was last seen driving a 2008 Nissan Sentra 4-door in Oregon with Oregon license plate 407EDX.
Joshua Eastman, Josephine Country District Attorney, accuses Foster. He claims Foster tried to kill her while "intentionally torturing her" and left her "in a location where she wasn't likely to be found," according to AP. Court documents are also included.
Warren Hensman (the Grants Pass police chief) told the outlet that Foster is no longer behind bars for past crimes. He said, "We are laser-focused to capture this man and bring him to justice."
Foster was taken into custody in 2019 after Foster's ex-girlfriend was kept captive for two weeks with her ankles and wrists tied by zip ties and duct tape. According to The Las Vegas Review Journal, Foster was held captive for two weeks with his ex-girlfriend. She claimed that she was forced to eat Lye, had her head shaved, and suffered seven broken bones and two black eyes. After convincing him to take the victim to a gas station and grocery store for food and water, she ran for help after he allowed her out of his sight.
He was initially charged with five felonies, but he pleaded guilty as part of a plea bargain to one felony charge of battery and one misdemeanor of battery constituting domestic abuse. He was sentenced to a 2 1/2 year term. However, he was allowed to serve time for the 729 days that he waited for trial... and was held for less than 200 days.
Foster should be seen immediately by anyone who has information about Foster.
