Police Identify Four Idaho College Students Found Dead Off Campus In Apparent Homicide

"We are certain that there is a crime in this area, so we are searching for a suspect."

Four students were killed at the University of Idaho. Police are now investigating what they believe to be a homicide.

Police in Moscow, Idaho, responded to a 911 call about "an unconscious person" just before noon Sunday. But when they arrived they discovered four bodies.

Later, they were identified as Ethan Chapin (20), Madison Mogen (21) and Kaylee Goncalves (21). They were all students.

Scott Green, school president, stated that Chapin was a freshman and a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He majored in recreation, sport and tourist management in the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences. Kernodle was a junior and a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, majoring in the College of Business and Economics. Mogen, a senior and a member of Pi Beta Phi majored in marketing at the College of Business and Economics. Goncalves, a senior and Alpha Phi member, majored in general studies at the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences.

Moscow police Capt. Anthony Dahlinger spoke to The Idaho Statesman Monday. "We have definitely committed a crime, so we are searching for a suspect."

No one is currently in custody. Details are not available at this time. However, police stated in a press release that they "don't believe there is an ongoing risk to the community." ABC News was also informed by the Moscow Mayor that this seemed to be a one-off situation. He added that "something had happened that resulted [in these deaths] -- there was no robbery."

The Moscow Police Department and City of Moscow are deeply sorry for the loss of friends, family members, and students, as well as the community, during this difficult time." We offer our deepest sympathies to all those affected by this incident.

Kaylee's family released their own statement on Monday. They said that "one of the most difficult experiences has been to sum up an entire individual in one paragraph."

Kaylee was, will always be, and is our protector and defender. She is strong and fair. She is the ultimate middle child. She accomplished everything she set her heart to. She was not afraid to fight for love, life, and death. Kaylee was a true go-getter. She always wanted to be on the next adventure.

They added that Kaylee loved her family and dog and she was excited to move to Texas and get a new job. Kaylee also wanted to travel to Europe. They said, "She wouldn't stop fighting for the truth and justice, and neither will she."

The family asked that people refrain from spreading harmful rumors, which aren't grounded in reality, and instead rely only on the authorities for current information.

"It is with deep sorrow that I share this with you that the University of Idaho was notified today of death of four University of Idaho student living off-campus, believed to have been victims of homicide," U of I president Green stated Monday.

"My wife Gabriella, and I are truly heartbroken. He continued, "Words can't adequately express the joy these students brought to the world or the pain we feel at their death under such tragic circumstances." Their families and friends feel the loss even more. As this event is undeniably personal, the university is committed to helping all students, their families and employees.

"Out of respect for these fellow Vandals," classes were cancelled Monday
