The film producer called it "nothing but a vindictive piece" and a "cheap attempt to capitalize on the current "Vanderpump Rules" fever," referring to Scandoval.
Randall Emmett weighs in on the release of a new Hulu documentary, The Randall Scandal, Love, Loathing, and Vanderpump, which examines the various controversy surrounding the film producer.
The 52-year old blasted Page Six's Tuesday interview with him. He also criticized the Los Angeles Times exposé of June 2022 about the allegations made against him.
The LA Times exposé included allegations that Emmett had offered women roles in his movies in exchange for sexual favors. Randall "staunchly denied" the allegations. Lala spoke with the outlet about the article, recalling a violent altercation she had in October 2021 after confronting Emmett over his alleged infidelity. Randall denied the allegations.
Randall started by saying, "Nearly a year ago, the Los Angeles Times published a biased and inaccurate hit piece about me." Amy Kaufman was one of the writers who seemed to be on a vendetta against me. I think this is because she allegedly had a friendship with my former Lala Kent.
He said that the article included fictitious, exaggerated and fabricated stories by former employees who were disgruntled after being fired.
"Lala also participated in this fiasco. This is likely because I've been fighting for joint legal custody 50/50 of our child," Emmett said of Kent who didn't participate in the documentary. (Randall, 32, and Lala, 31, split in October of 2021 after a three-year relationship. Former couples have a 2-year-old child together.
Emmett explained to Page Six his reasons for refusing to participate in the documentary.
He said: "I declined to take part because I realized very quickly that the film would be just as biased, if it wasn't more, than the original article it was based on."
Randall said that "numerous individuals were approached to take part in this documentary, and the majority declined." He said that he had been told "that people were encouraged to talk negatively about me, while the vast majority only had positive things to say," and that those featured in this documentary were "the ones with very definite agendas."
Emmett called the documentary "nothing but a vindictive piece" and a "cheap attempt to capitalise on the current "Vanderpump Rules" fever," referring to Scandoval.
He said, "My family and the people I work with and those that matter to me all know the truth about my achievements; I have nothing more to prove."
The LA Times responded to Emmett's remarks in a page six statement.
Scheana and Lala Kent Talk About Ariana Madix’s New Man
The statement stated that "The Los Angeles Times stands by its reporting about Randall Emmett." Two veteran entertainment journalists Amy Kaufman, and Meg James reviewed hundreds of court documents and Emmett’s internal company records, and interviewed over 30 former associates as part of an investigation published last year. We welcome Emmett to contest any facts that we have reported or that Kaufman and James present in the documentary.
ABC's "The Randall Scandal": Love, Loathing, Vanderpump, features an investigation into "many of the shocking allegations against Emmett, including allegations of race-discrimination, workplace abuse, as well as questionable on set behavior towards actor Bruce Willis, whose mental acuity was declining -- all of which Emmett denied."
The 90-minute documentary does not include Kent, but it has "special access" to the interview footage of the reality star who "opens about her tumultuous relationships with Emmett, and how she found out about the allegations against her former fiance."
Lisa Burningham and Easton Burningham were Lala's brother and mother. They were also interviewed for the documentary. ABC reports that the two "describe shocking, never-before told claims of Emmett’s alleged abuse towards Kent. They exclusively recount what they view as Emmett’s disturbing behavior after Kent gave birth to her daughter and Kent’s escape from their home."
On May 22, Hulu will stream "The Randall Scandal": Love, Loathing, Vanderpump.
