Ryan Gosling Reacts to Criticism He's Too Old to Play Ken

The actor explains that after seeing the man face down in mud, next to a "squished lime", he realized: "This guy's story needs to be told."

Ryan Gosling says it is hypocritical to claim that he's "too old" to play Ken in a new " Barbie movie.

The actor responded to the criticism that emerged from the dark corners on the internet after the trailer for the film was released in April. Social media pundits deemed him "too old" to play the Mattel doll.

He told GQ that "if people don't like my Ken there are other Kens."

We call it pure Ken-energy. The hilarity did not stop.

The 42-year old thought, "His job is beach." His job has been the beach for 60 years. What does that mean?

On a serious note, he also stated that the story with a female protagonist was compelling for him. "I sort of respond to scripts or characters where there is that kind of dynamic." I recognize it."

Gosling credited his two daughters -- Esmeralda Amada and Amada Lee -- for convincing him to sign up. Or, rather, the gory aftermath from their time in the yard.

Gosling remembered, as if reliving a dark moment, that he saw Ken face-down in the mud, with a lemon squished on his head. "And I was like this guy's story needs to be told, you know?"
