Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively have opened up about their parenting style. They emphasize the importance of "self-awareness".

When speaking with People Ryan Reynolds spoke about his parenting and that of Blake Lively .

Reynolds, who spoke to the outlet on Monday at the Bring Change to Mind Revels & Revelations 11 in New York City, said: "I think that it's more talking to them about all the things." It's true when I say that I am interested in how their day is going and what they are doing.

Reynolds, who received the Robin Williams Legacy of Laughter Award at the event, said he, along with Lively, place a high value on "self awareness" and encourage their children to tell them about their daily routines.

The father of four said, "Walking them to and from school is the best part of my day." "I believe that as parents, our children are better prepared to deal with the rigors and challenges of childhood than I was when I was growing up."

Reynolds added, "It is just totally different today." The people are more aware of themselves. We tend to focus on self-awareness in our children. "Don't be happy or anything else, but be aware of yourself and accept everything."

Deadpool's star Lively shares four children with him -- James, Inez, and Betty, aged 8 and 4. In February, they welcomed their fourth child.

Reynolds gave an update to reporters on Lively, and their family of six soon after welcoming the new baby. She told them at CNBC Power Lunch in February: "Everybody is doing great."

"We wouldn't have done this four times, if we didn’t love it," explained the actor-entrepreneur, before revealing how mom and her baby were sleeping. "Everybody is doing great. Everyone is doing great. I think that if we had not figured out the problem by now, we would be in serious trouble.

Since the birth of his new child, the house resembled more like a "zoo".

Ryan jokingly said, "This place is a zoo." This is my office and I will probably spend my entire life here!
