Sarah Jessica Parker addressed Kim Cattrall’s absence in "And Just Like That ..."" -- or, as she called her: "the actress who played the role."

Andy Cohen, host of "Watch What Happens Live" Monday night, raised the topic very diplomatically and was then given a very diplomatic response.

Cohen exclaimed, "I loved the way the show dealt with Samantha's absence. Every time I received a text, I felt like Samantha had a lot heart -- she had a lot to give." How did you feel at the end about how you handled it? She was kept alive by you.

"Yeah, well... SJP started, "Yeah, well, I think... "But Michael Patrick King, our showrunner and head writer, is the one who's responsible for this extraordinary group of talented writers.

She continued, "It was an original idea because Samantha is still here." "The actress who played that role is no more, but... people aren’t absent from your life when you don’t want them to, you know."

She gave King credit for handling Samantha's absence with "grace and dignity and respect, as well as love and affection for the character."

She said, "I thought it was like many friendships that, ye know, challenge one another and struggle and want to stay connected in a manner, because it's just too painful."

Andy, who is not afraid to press guests on difficult subjects, quickly moved on.

Samantha Jones, the reboot of "Sex and the City", is only heard via text message. Fans learned that Jones moved to London and ended all ties with the group. She was upset about being dropped from Carrie Bradshaw's book's publicist.

The tie-cutting and upset elements are still there in real life. However, the publicized feud between the actresses over a book deal is not the reason for the media attention. Cattrall made it clear that she hates her former co-star, and how she didn't like working with her. Parker however has maintained that there has never been a feud.

The final episode of season 1 of "And Just Like That", which aired earlier in the month, sees Samantha and Carrie burying the hatchet and agreeing to have a drink... via text.

It seems very unlikely that the reunion will take place in season 2.
