Shakira begins a new chapter in her life with a continental move

After nearly nine years living in Spain, the "Hips Don’t Lie” singer posted on Instagram Sunday that she was moving to Barcelona with her children, Sasha, 8 and Milan, 10.

This move comes 10 months after Shakira announced that she and the soccer star were splitting after 11 years of marriage.

The caption of the Grammy winner read: "I settled in Barcelona in order to give my kids stability. This is the same thing that we are now searching for in another corner in the world next to our family, friends, and the sea." "Today, we begin a new chapter in their pursuit of happiness."

Reflecting on her time in Spain, she said, "Thanks everyone who surfed so much waves with me in Barcelona, where I learned friendship is undoubtedly more than love." I am grateful to all who have been there to cheer, dry my tears, inspire me, and make me grow.

She concluded, "Thanks to my Spanish audiences who have always wrapped myself in their love and loyality."

After negotiating a custody agreement last year with Pique, the 46-year old singer is now moving to Miami. According to TMZ, a source close the couple claimed that they "signed an agreement best for the children -- which was their main focus after 8 years living in Barcelona. She and the kids will now return to her longtime home, Miami, where all her maternal family is."

Elle interviewed Shakira in September about her feelings regarding their split.

She said that for women who believe in family values, like myself, who had the big dream of having a family forever forever, to witness that dream being broken or shredded is one of the most difficult things you can go through. She also stated that she hopes to be resilient in the face it all.

"I can only tell you that I put everything into this relationship and for my family," she said, referring to how she moved to Barcelona to be with her children and support her husband. She said that it was a sacrifice of her love and that it helped her to build an "unbreakable bond" with their children.

"Regardless of how Gerard and me feel about one another as ex-partners or how they ended, he's the father of my kids" and she believes that "we will figure out what's best for them, their dreams, and what's fair for all of us."
