Sinead's O'Connor final messages to her long-time friend Bob Geldof revealed the full spectrum of human emotions.

Geldof, a friend of Sinead's for many years, paid tribute to her at the Cavan Calling Festival, in Cavan, Ireland, over the weekend.

The Boomtown Rats frontman revealed to the audience that he texted his friend only two weeks before her death.

According to Sky News, he stated that "Sinead had been full of a terrible solitude and a horrible despair" many times. "She was very close to me. We have been talking up until a few weeks ago.

"Some texts were filled with despair, desperation, and sadness and others were ecstatically joyful." He recalled. "She was that way."

Geldof said that at the festival, "some of us watched [her] this afternoon on the Web, and we were just stunned by how beautiful, brilliant, she was."

He told Irish Web TV before the show that Sinead is a "big Rats Fan" and they will be playing their older songs to her honor.

Geldof stated that Sinead lived just down the street from him and Gary the guitarist in the band, who had died six to seven months earlier. We are literally right down the street.

We've really known her for most of her adult life. She was a huge Rats fan... So, to be honest, we are doing very early stuff, and we dedicate this show to her. It's all we can do, as musicians."

We were friends throughout. She was signed by the same record label, the same guy and manager, etc., so it's obvious that there is a connection.

O'Connor passed away at age 56.

There are no further details available about the Irish singer's passing. The singer's family released a statement in The Irish Times saying: "It was with great sadness that I announced the passing of my beloved Sinead." Her family and her friends are distraught and have asked for privacy during this difficult time.

Sinead has released 10 studio albums in her career. In 1990, her song Nothing Compares to U reached the top of the charts worldwide.
