Sofia Coppola Reacts to Daughter Romy's Viral TikTok About Being Grounded for Chartering Helicopter

Sofia Coppola Reacts to Daughter Romy's Viral TikTok About Being Grounded for Chartering Helicopter

The reaction of her daughter, 16, was not what the award-winning film-maker had hoped for.

Sofia Coppola shares her thoughts about her daughter Romy's TikTok video that she posted in March.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter the award-winning director -- who shares her 16-year old daughter Romy with her Phoenix frontman husband Thomas Mars -- responded to her teen's viral video, where she revealed that her parents "biggest rules" are that she is "not allowed" social media accounts and that she had been "grounded" when she tried to charter helicopter to visit a close friend.

"I grew up in a very private family, and social media was the exact opposite. Coppola's daughter said that it was the perfect way to rebel.

I got a lot of compliments about her filmmaking. "And comedy." "She's funny," added the director to the video that Romy deleted later. "But having people discuss my parenting in public is not something I had hoped for."

In March, Romy created -- and then removed -- a TikTok page, which included the viral video of the teenager discussing her famous parents as she was being grounded.

Romy began by saying, "Make vodka sauce pasta with my because I am grounded." Because I tried to charter an helicopter from New York, to Maryland using my dad's card to go to dinner with a camp friend.

She began making the pasta and confessed that she "didn't know the difference between [an] garlic and an onion" and "had Google images of onions on her phone." She joked, "I'm ashamed."

Romy explained why she made the TikTok clip -- and presumably created her account -- to begin with.

"I thought this would be a good idea since I am already grounded, because my parents have the biggest rule that I can't have any social media accounts. She explained why before holding up the Grammy Award. She covered the plaque but the award appears to belong to Mars, as Phoenix won a Grammy Award in 2012.

Romy explained, "They don't like me being a nepotism child, but TikTok won't make me famous. So it's not really important."

Romy introduced her babysitter to the camera as the video continued. She joked, "My parents never come home, so they are my replacements."

Coppola and Mars share not only Romy but also Cosima, a 12-year old daughter. Coppola is, of course the daughter of renowned filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola.
