Squatter Wearing Only Underwear Accused of Nearly Drowning Deputy During Manhunt

The suspect told the authorities that he could not be tased because he was in water. He then allegedly put a deputy into a headlock, and "dragged" him underwater.

Authorities say an Ohio man faces attempted murder charges for nearly drowning a Sheriff's Deputy during a manhunt.

Last week, deputies in Scioto County responded to an alarm about squatters living on a nearby piece of property. Authorities found three people when they arrived -- a male by a pond, and a couple of men and women in a bedroom.

The Scioto County Sheriff's Department released a press release that stated, "The male, who appeared under the influence of alcohol, took off, wearing only his underwear."

He allegedly told the deputy who was still chasing him, "You can't Tase Me Now, I Am in Water."

The struggle began when the deputy managed to grab the suspect and pull him into the pond. The release stated that the suspect grabbed the radio of the deputy and kept it in his hands so he could not call for help. The suspect then put the deputy under water and held him in a headlock. He almost drowned and blacked out. The suspect fled, leaving the deputy needing medical attention.

According to Wowk 13 News, the deputy was taken to hospital and treated. He has been released by the sheriff and is recovering at home.

The authorities then began a manhunt using K-9 units, a helicopter and the two other people on the scene. They were also brought in to be questioned. The suspect was located and arrested hours later when he returned for his belongings. He told authorities that he was homeless.

Turner was accused of attempted aggravated killing, attempted murder and felonious assault against a peace officer. He also faces charges for obstructing the official business, breaking and entering and obstructing the court. A warrant was issued for his failure to appear in relation to a prior domestic violence charge as well as for resisting an arrest. He is being held under a $230,000 bond.

Tamera Clifton was charged as well with breaking and entry, along with Birdine Cole, the man who was at the house.

The suspect will appear before the court for a preliminary hearing on August 30, after he has been assigned a public lawyer.
