Elton John praised Buffett as "a unique and treasured performer" while Kenny Chesney expressed his gratitude for "their friendship and the songs that I will hold in my heart forever."
Celebrities pay tribute to the "Margaritaville'" singer Jimmy Buffett who died on Friday, aged 76.
A statement was posted on his website and social media pages late Friday night announcing Buffett's passing.
The statement said that Jimmy died peacefully on the night of the 1st September, surrounded by family, friends, dogs, and music. "He lived like a singer until the last breath of his life and will be greatly missed by many."
After the news broke, many celebrities took to social media in order to pay their respects to Buffett.
Elton John posted a message on his Instagram Story. He wrote, "Jimmy Buffett is a unique entertainer. He was loved by his fans and never let them down. It's the worst news. This is a sad news. David and I send our condolences to Jane's family.
Kenny Chesneypaid a touching tribute to Buffett via social media. He shared a moving tribute on X, formerly Twitter, and Instagram. The country singer shared a video on Instagram of him singing Buffett's "A Pirate Looks at Forty" while lying on a Florida shore, as well as another clip of the two performing together.
"So farewell Jimmy. Thank you for your friendship, and I will always cherish the songs. Chesney captioned the photo "Sail on Sailor".
Chesney and Buffett collaborated a few year ago. The two musicians performed a remake "Trying to Reason With Hurricane Season" for Chesney’s 2018 album Songs For the Saints.
Brian Wilson, Beach Boys founder, also posted a throwback photo of Buffett, with the caption "Love and Mercy Jimmy Buffett." The post was in reference to the song "Love and Mercy" by Buffett.
Bravo EP Andy Cohen also shared a throwback photo of Buffett. Cohen wrote: "The king was cool... paradise was anywhere Jimmy Buffett was."
The President of the United States Joe Biden also wrote a long post on social media in response to Buffett's death.
Jimmy Buffett, an American music legend and poet of paradise inspired generations to find joy in their lives and one another. Jimmy Buffett was a man of joy and goodwill in real life, just as he had been on stage. He used his gift to bring together people.
He continued, "Jill, I, and our grandchildren send our love to Jane, his wife of 46-years, their children Savannah, Sarah, Cameron, and their grandchildren, as well as to the millions who will continue loving him, even though his ship is now sailing to new shores."

According to TMZ, Buffett died after a long battle with skin cancer. The outlet claims that the "Come Sunday" singer was first diagnosed with skin cancer four years ago. This later developed into lymphoma.
One of Buffett’s friends told the publication that Buffett lived his life "in the sun", both literally and metaphorically.
TMZ reported that Buffett has recently begun receiving hospice care. TMZ reported that in addition to the support of his loved ones and friends, Sir Paul McCartney performed at Buffett's house.
