Bryan DeLorenzo, the Winchesters' first assistant camera operator, claims that director John Showalter ordered them to shoot in the rain despite concerns about lightning, and he was knocked out when he got hit.
Supernatural and its prequel series The Winchesters are well-versed in dealing with monsters. However, according to a crew member, they were not prepared for at least one adverse weather condition.
In a suit filed against Warner Bros. Television and The CW Network, as well as producer JensenAckles The Winchesters, first assistant camera operator Bryan DeLorenzo claims negligence for his hospitalization after he was hit by lightning.

In his suit, he notes that studio safety protocols require that productions stop if lightning strikes less than six miles from the set. Most wait at least 30 minutes after the strike to resume filming.
DeLorenzo accuses the production and director John Showalter of violating this rule during a Louisiana shoot last year. DeLorenzo, according to his lawsuit, had even questioned whether it was safe to continue shooting in what he called a heavy downpour.
DeLorenzo says that within 10 minutes of the conversation, when Showalter asked for filming continue, DeLorenzo stood next to a video camera and heard a loud boom.
The crew was afraid and knelt down to protect themselves. The suit claims that Plaintiff was thrown to the ground during the commotion. "Plaintiff was knocked unconscious after he saw a bright, white light. Plaintiff felt his chest burn and he thought an explosion had taken place when he woke up.
In the suit, it is stated that he saw a bright light before lightning struck and knocked him unconscious. DeLorenzo ended up in an emergency room.
DeLorenzo claims he also spoke to the studio's safety officers and production coordinator about shooting in bad conditions and was instructed to "buy lightning detector products and weather applications," according The Hollywood Reporter. The studio didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from THR.
In his lawsuit, the camera operator claims "serious injuries, pain, distress, anxiety, emotional distress extreme, embarrassment and humiliation as well as depression, shock and injury to himself." The camera operator is also seeking punitive damage in an amount "sufficient to punish and deter future similar conduct."
The Winchesters is a prequel to the long-running Supernatural starring Ackesl, and JaredPadalecki. The show was cancelled in May, after one season. Supernatural lasted 15 years, from 2005 to 2020.
