Peter Jackson made a movie starring Kate Winslet about the crime for which she was sent to prison.
Anne Perry, a crime writer, was convicted at age 14 of helping to bludgeon the mother of her friend. She has now died at the age 84.
According to BBC, the author died in Los Angeles hospital after suffering a decline in her health since December, when she suffered a heart attack.
Perry's horrific crime inspired Peter Jackson's 1994 Oscar-nominated film "Heavenly Creatures," starring Kate Winslet.
She was 15 when she was murdered. She spent five years in prison.
Perry and her friend Pauline Parker, the daughter of victim Honorah Mary Parker, plotted the crime.
Honorah Mary was found to have been struck roughly twenty times by a brick. The court found out that the girls plotted to murder Honorah Mary in order not to be separated.
Perry's parents planned to send her to South Africa, and the girls feared Honorah Mary might stop Perry from going.
Both teens were not yet 18 years old, so they were exempted from the death penalty.
Journals uncovered by investigators revealed the details of the plot.
Perry was born Juliet Hulme. She adopted Anne Perry as her pen name to start her writing career.
Her first novel, a murder trial story, was published in 1979. She sold over 25 million copies worldwide.
