Cape Cod, Massachusetts woman was "terrified", after discovering a stranger in her car's backseat as she drove home in the middle night.

Yarmouth Police Department reports that an officer found a woman trying to dial 911 outside a car he believed to be disabled at 1am. A press release stated that "she appeared to be terrified and upset" as she told the officer about what happened.

The release said that the woman claimed she had not noticed anything unusual after leaving the house of her friend, but shortly afterwards a light appeared in her car as she was driving. As she looked in the backseat, she was shocked to see a man with his coat over his head.

The police report stated that the woman "started to scream upon discovery"... before the man did. Authorities claim that the "extremely scared" woman began driving "erratically" as the male passenger "fell from the open rear window of the car."

Jailton Santos, 36, was arrested and charged with breaking into a car at night. He entered a plea of not guilty; his bail amount was set at $3,000.

Authorities added: "The Yarmouth Police reminds everyone to lock their vehicles unattended, especially at night."
