Police in San Antonio, Texas say that a man killed another man after he allegedly stole his truck. They tracked him down using an Apple AirTag within the vehicle.

According to the San Antonio Police Department, they received a report last Wednesday about a vehicle that was stolen from a San Antonio residence. KHOU spokesperson Nick Soliz said that they didn't know the vehicle was equipped with an Apple AirTag.

The truck's owner, who was not named, followed the tracker 20 miles away to a parking lot and tried to confront the suspect, according to Soliz.

According to police, the owner claimed that he believed the alleged theftist pulled out a gun before shooting and killing the man. Two bullet casings and two vehicles with windows shot out were also found at the scene. Soliz stated to KSAT police that the owner was the only one who fired shots.

MySanAntonio.com was also informed by the spokesperson that the shooter had cooperated with police officers and was taken into custody to be questioned. The investigation continues, although he is not expected to be charged.

Fox 7 Austin reported that police have not publicly confirmed whether the suspect thief is actually armed as of Saturday.

Soliz cautioned that "if you are going to have your vehicle stolen, I understand how frustrating it can be. But please don't take things into your own hands." It's never safe. Later, Andrew John Herrera, 44 years old was identified as the alleged thief. According to the medical examiner he died of a gunshot to the head.
