Texas authorities have charged a mother with child endangerment for allegedly putting her son in her trunk to avoid Covid.

Sarah Beam and her 13-year old daughter, who were positive for the virus, arrived at a Houston Covid testing site on January 3. A warrant was issued by the Harris County District Attorney's Office. Sarah Beam locked the trunk in fear of contracting the virus.

In response to concerns raised by health officials, authorities arrived at the site. CNN obtained the warrant and it states that the director of health services found a female driver later identified as Sarah Beam with her child in her car trunk.

"The warrant states that the defendant confirmed that K.H., her 13-year old son, was in the car trunk due to the child having been positive for Covid."

According to Beam, the health director claimed that Beam informed her that she took extreme measures to avoid being infected.

The official then told the mother that her son was "lying down in the trunk" and needed to be removed so that testing could take place. The boy was found in the back seat of the car by authorities. Surveillance footage from nearby schools confirmed that he had entered the vehicle "on the passenger side" according to the warrant.

Beam and Beam were able to bond on Sunday. CNN reports that she is a teacher at Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District (CFISD).

"CFPD was notified that a child was found in the trunk of a vehicle at a COVID-19 drive-thru testing site. A warrant was issued for the arrest after law enforcement completed an extensive investigation. The child was not hurt. Sarah Beam was most recently a teacher at CFISD. She is currently on administrative leave," the outlet said in a statement.
