The Husband's Story of a Woman Being Called a Hero for Doing What He Does Everyday Shows That We Still Have A Lot To Go

First, women fought to be allowed to step away from traditional caretaker roles. We fought for equality at work. Now, professional moms aren't revolutionary--they're the majority.

The patriarchy has missed the mark when it comes to working mom appreciation. It's normal for women to wear both hats. Men who wear both hats are heroes.

This phenomenon was perfectly summed up by a TikTok user: daddy privilege.

What is the Daddy Privilege?

New mom and TikTok user Chloe Sexton shared her experience of daddy privilege in the most appropriate way: with a baby strapped to her hip.

Sexton runs an e-bakery, which means she has to go weekly to a wholesale market. "Last week my husband was off. He decided to do it for my benefit. Sexton stated in a TikTok posting that he had also had the baby. "I can tell you, this man was treated as a hero."

"Mind you, those same people see us there every week. I'm a seven-month-old baby, carrying 100-pound bags full of flour in my Subaru. There's nothing to see. This is a woman having sex with a man.

"But my husband," Sexton continued, "ha! My husband is wearing the baby and it's "oh my God, look at me!" Oh my god! "You work so hard!"

Sexton, with her baby in tow, looks close at the camera. He's not a hero. He is a father. He's just a parent. Every week, I do the same thing.

This is, in essence daddy privilege: unequal recognition for equal work.

A side effect of the Patriarchy

Familial dynamics cannot be applied to an entire population. Some relationships are equal, while others are more uneven. This trend is not only being noticed by Sexton.

One Tiktok user said, "I just had C section." Everybody asks me if my husband is getting enough sleep when I call to check in. But not me.

Another user wrote, "Men bringing their babies to meetings: Ooh's and Aah's all around." "I brought my child to the meeting, but was called by the captain and told not again."

This is a side effect of patriarchy and not just a common problem. One user commented, "This story really illustrates the way reproductive labor has been enforced and expected of women."

"You are expected to accept that you won't get paid for your labor and to complete it without any help. People are often surprised to learn that a father is actually a parent. They continued, "The bar is so low that fathers,"

Naturally, others may disagree

It's not surprising that many men have something to say on daddy privilege. Sexton's TikTok has many dads supporting her. Sexton also shared some of her furrier comments in a follow up video.

He is a hero. One user said that all dads are heroes and that he couldn't be wrong. "He was kind enough help you on your day off."

"With his child. He had. It was done so. With [me]. Whom [I] care. Sexton responded, "Every day he works."

One comment said, "Men would also think that you are a hero if you pay his bills." Sexton addressed the issue in a second video. "There are so many holes within the sexist bulls**t you put here, that I feel like filling them in for you."

"This little baking business has helped me to supplement my family's income during the pandemic." Sexton said, "So, perhaps lower your voice." Let me know what you do.

We Still Have Much To Do

Sexton's story has been featured in several international news magazines. Sexton also says she has received "the most hatemail I've ever received in my entire lifetime."

Sexton's business page was rated by some users. One customer claimed Sexton was rude and dramatic, made their daughters weep, and called Sexton an evil witch.

The review states that she doesn't like children. "Thankfully her husband was there and saved the day!"

Sexton's bakery does not have a storefront, as if that were not enough proof. Sexton's husband is not employed there. Sexton's story is more than her own. This highlights the ever-present inequalities between men and women.

This isn’t only a women’s issue. It is not unusual for people to be amazed that fathers do their jobs. This is a sign that they have accomplished something extraordinary.

This is not only insulting for women but also insulting for men. Fight for feminist equality means fighting for men's right to be fathers without being awarded a patronizing participation trophy.

To achieve true gender equality, we must get rid of daddy privilege.
