The Season Premiere: How Jersey Shore Dealt With Ronnie's Exit and Arrest

He was last seen stressing about his girlfriend's proposal days before he left the show.

As Thursday's Season 5 premiere revealed, Ronnie Ortiz Magro's departure from the show, one of their gang members is gone.

The reality star shared to his costars that Saffire Matos was about to propose to him and was also preparing to ask her father his blessing. Vinny Guadagnino, Mike "The Situation", Sorrentino were slightly worried that their friend was too quick to get into the action. But he continued on regardless.

Vin said, "It's too soon, I'm sure not gonna lie," to Ron. He then confessed, "She's nice, but just because someone is nice and you've only been dating her for a few months doesn't mean you should marry her immediately."

Mike said, "I hope he makes the right decision." "But this could be rushed so I have to pray that everything goes well."

Ron, for his part, said that he wanted Saffire to propose to him to prove that "she is the person I want to be with" in the long-term. He joked that "even if you get married on the show, it doesn’t mean you’re together forever."

Ron acknowledged that it was difficult ---" for him to get Saffire’s father's permission to pop the question. Sitch agreed to drive Saffire to her home with him and then wait outside. Ortiz Magro appeared shortly thereafter and stated that it went smoothly. He spoke from his heart and received the blessing he desired.

Ron broke the news later to the cast. Jenni "JWoww", Farley, said that they were all happy. However, she also stated that there was a big difference between happiness, and full-blown marriage commitment. It's possible to be happy without having to rush to the altar.

Five days later, however the cast was seen reacting on headlines about Ronnie being arrested for domestic violence in an incident involving Saffire, April 22, 2021. Pauly exclaimed, "Holy s ---,"!"

"We have another situation for Uncle Ron. Mike told Lauren that he was in the news. "I don’t know how we’re going to deal with it going forward. This is very troubling. It seems that the engagement is off."

"It's like going around the same mountain over-and-over again and making the same mistakes." He said that nothing can change if nothing is changed. I believe you must go to treatment. You have to make a difference.

Lauren suggested that Mike contact him. Pauly and Vin spoke about how Sitch was helped by seeking treatment.

Vinny confessed that the allegations and whatever else were very serious. He needs to be able to focus on himself and make some decisions. I hope he improves and that he takes the time to work on himself. Ronnie is like my brother, and I am sad. All I can do for him is to wish him luck and pray for his recovery."

Angelina Pivarnick reacted to the situation by stating, "What is the f man?" She continued, "The whole situation with Ron is so tragic. I am available to help him if he needs it."

The episode then flashed headlines about Ron taking a break to focus on his mental health, before a slate reading: "If you, or someone you know, is struggling emotionally, visit mentalhealthishealth.us for resources and support."

He said that he had spoken to MTV and that he would leave the show to seek treatment for his mental health issues. My number one goal is to face my problems head-on. Although this will be difficult, my top priority is to stay healthy and be the best father and man I can for my daughter.

Although cameras weren't available at the time, Ronnie proposed to Saffire in June 2021.

He was released from jail after completing an inpatient program to avoid violating his April probation. Saffire was also given 26 parenting classes and was placed under a protective order for three years.

Although it is not clear if he will return to the show, Ronnie said in August 2021 to TMZ that he had quit drinking and was now four months sober. Ronnie also stated that he would be returning. All my fans love me and I love them all, so I'm going to give them what they want and I'll be back soon."

"Jersey Shore Family Vacation” airs Thursdays at MTV.
