This trend is called the Russian Manicure and is the latest TikTok trend. It has been controversial and some experts are concerned.

What is a Russian manicure?

TikTok has helped thousands of nail artists to share their work with the world. Nail Mart USA is the most well-known nail artist on the platform. She is a well-known Russian manicure expert with over 1.2 million followers.

A few factors make the Russian manicure unique and Instagram-worthy. According to Nail Mart USA it is a dry method. It doesn't require you to soak your nails in water, as you would with a normal manicure. Special tools are required for precise cuticle work.

Her tutorial explains that her tools undergo a three-phase sterilization and disinfection process. She also said that the same method used to apply gel polish can make the manicure last for up to a month.

It is applied near the cuticle to prevent an "outgrown" look. But it takes time. A Russian Manicure can take between 2 and 3 hours, according to her. This is just for a regular color.

What Makes This Technique So Controversial

She explained that there is a lot of confusion among the general public regarding the terminology of the nails.
