"They were laughing at my and I hit the floor," said the victim. She later fell unconscious during the alleged assault.
Police in Tustin are looking for four juvenile males accused of assaulting a mom aged 35 at Target as part a social media prank.
Lana Clay Monaghan was out shopping this weekend when a bucket was placed on top of her head. According to the Los Angeles Times, her vision and hearing were obstructed.
"I couldn't breathe. I grabbed my neck and started screaming. FOX 11 also reported that she was shaking and in fear, but could still hear laughter. "I was shocked to see a group filming me when I turned around. They held up their phones and laughed at me.
According to the woman, epilepsy is a condition that causes sudden stress waves and then she loses consciousness. She recalled, "The worst thing about this is that I was able to ask for help but they laughed at me and I fell to the ground."
She was unconscious for several hours before she regained consciousness.
The Tustin Police Department stated that they were "actively investigating" this case. They also said that four juveniles were seen entering the store and placing a bucket on the victim's head before "fleeing" from the scene. The group, police believe, was trying to duplicate the social media trend of placing a bucket on the head of a stranger and recording their reactions. They also believe that there is no current threat to the community at the moment.
Clay-Monaghan posted on Facebook that the police had also told her that it was likely part a "TikTok" prank. You can search for "bucket overhead prank" or simply "bucket joke" on the site to find a lot of videos that have been viewed millions of times.
She wrote that she felt "targeted, vulnerable" and that in that moment, I was afraid that my life would be in danger. "This has been an extremely traumatic experience for my life, and I still have a lot to process.
She added that "the fact that all this was done in the name a prank was particularly distressing." "No one should go through what I went through."
After blaming them for failing to help her during her collapse, she also stated to the LA Times that she hoped others would "take responsibility" for their actions.
Target stated that it is cooperating with authorities.
